Title: Oculus Go
Post by: Le Chuck on December 24, 2018, 03:27:40 pm
Picked one up for Christmas for my younger boy. Set it up last night and messed about with it today. Downloaded all the basic apps and a few games before putting it on to charge and repack. He'll open it tomorrow morning and be able to jump right into a game.

I wear glasses and do get motion sick so I didn't think I'd enjoy VR that much. A few of the apps about did me in, the roller coasters look crap but got my equilibrium swimming, but I was very much surprised how much I like this gadget. Being untethered is great, the unit is comfortable and a few of the games are downright impressive. The 180 and 360 Cirque de Soleil stuff on YT is awesome, there's a wingsuit game that is pretty intense, netflix is pretty spectacular at movie theater screen sizes and I got to hack at robots with a lightsaber.  Couldn't be happier. May have to go get my own.

Anybody else mucking about with an Oculus Go? Must have apps? Experiences?

That NBA Courtside app has me intrigued.

We have PSVR and had the Rift for a while, I don't know what apps are compatible with the GO but if you can get a solid driving title it feels like a natural combo (especially with a wheel).
Thumper is strange and compelling, RecRoom is free and tons of fun, my son likes Lucky's Tale (platformer), if you like live action I think there is also an app that let's you watch concerts from the stage.

The Samsung VR is similar minus the sweaty face, due to heat issues.

Make sure your son gets some rest from it.  I get vertigo from the experience.h

I use mine when I'm flying.  I get to watch all kinds on those long flights.  >:D

They should set exterior 3D cameras on planes so passengers who bring VR gear can plug in from their seat.

I'm a big fan of VR and also a glasses wearer. I bought prescription lens inserts for my Rift so I don't have to wear my glasses in VR. They are AMAZING and not terribly expensive. Might want to look into a pair for the GO if you plan on using it much.
