Title: Lunar Lander thrust lever questions
Post by: TheManuel on November 15, 2018, 01:03:45 pm
I recently added this game to my cab but I'm considering how to set up the thrust control within my control options.

From watching a video in youtube of somebody playing it, I've reached the following conclusions but would like for somebody who may have had hands-on experience with the game to correct me if I'm wrong.

1. The thrust lever provides analog control (obviously, but just in case)
2. The lever is not self-centering and will stay in whatever angle the player leaves it
3. Thrust is strongest at the farthest forward position and vice-versa
4. The game only responds to the position of the lever, not the dynamics of how quickly or slowly it is moved

Thanks in advance.

Yes to all.

Great.  Thanks.  I'll just map it to a flight stick I have lying around for games that require analog paddle and pedal inputs.

1, 3, and 4 are correct.

2 - The lever is spring-loaded to return to the lowest value.

Nice. Thanks for the info and the picture.

Since you're mapping to a flightstick that is probably spring-loaded to return to center, you might want to map MAME's "P1 Pedal 1 Analog" (thrust) input to "Joy 1 Y Axis -" as DarthMarino demonstrates from 1:30 - 2:05 in this video.

Mapping Combined Pedals in MAME (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_q1nfvcsHI#)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_q1nfvcsHI&t=90s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_q1nfvcsHI&t=90s)

"Joy 1 Y Axis"
- Stick centered = 50% thrust.

"Joy 1 Y Axis -"
- Stick centered = 0% thrust.
- Stick full forward = 100% thrust.   ;D

As always when dealing with actual analog controls, set the "INC" and "DEC" inputs to "none".

I'll check that out.  Last night I mapped it to the stick Y axis by using the in-game menu but I could not get precise control of the thrust, i.e., it would not go to a consistent level of thrust when centered.  I ended up mapping it to the slider which made thrust a lot more predictable.  I'll watch the video tonight and see if I can get a better configuration.

Thanks.

here's a possible new thruster control that GRS might make.
