Title: pictures of game rooms
Post by: mozzer on February 08, 2004, 11:28:00 am
Hello,

I've been browsing this site for a while now, but finally registered on the boards.

I know there is a ton of pictures of everyone's projects in the example section,  but i'm reallly interested to see some pictures of entire gameroom setups.

These pics are a bit outdated (got new stuff since then, and they aren't in the same places anymore), but they should give you some ideas.

Well, this is more like my play room!

Zeitgeist that Blue cabinet that has DataEast on the side.  It looks so much like the old Donkey Kong cabinets I used to play back in the day.  Is that what it was and someone converted to DE or is that just a typical cabinet of the day?

Having a look at zeitgeist's room--2 things--I have definite tool envy, and I know now how sear's made profits last year  ;D

James,
You're right, the blue cab is a standard Nintendo cab that was used in Donkey Kong & Popeye etc.
It had been converted to a Data East Kid Nikki when I found it.
It had no board, back panel or wiring, a bad monitor, & moderate edge damage/plywood curl due to being left out in the rain.
I Haven't decided what I'll do with it once I get the cab back into shape.
I'll either MAME it or put a vs Super Mario Kit in it.

Menace,
Yup, The guy at the Sear's hardware store knows me by name.
I just built this workshop & I included the new tools in my budget.
With the money I saved doing all of the work myself I was able to afford just about every tool that I've been eyeing for the last several years.
Afterall what good is a workshop without lots of cool toys er tools ;D

Ok that's what I thought.  I saw one when I bought my cabinet and I told the guy it was a Donkey Kong with Nintendo blue on the side.

Heck it is one of the few games I would recognize.

I was reintroduced to MAME when someone on the www.avsforum.com (do-it-yourself home theater builders) website mentioned building a cab.  I haven't worked on the room since!  Now I have a upright, a cocktail, a generic conversion...
In fact, I rarely visit avsforum any more!

haven't you been to BYOBH : Build Your Own Bubble Hockey?

I second the accolades on the bubble hockey and gameroom in general.  In the south we are in serious need of basements...I got no room to do anything like what you guys are doing.

my gameroom lasted about a year and I didn't take any pictures.  now it's a nursery. which is cool, but it's no bubble hockey  :)

I bought that chexx brand new in the box.  Paid around $2300 w/shipping.  At the time, they were selling over $1000 on ebay, and I just figured, what the heck.  Plus, I sold some of my dot.com stock to buy it.  It was around Y2K   ;D

My basement needs a nickname, I'm thinking of like e-basement or something, because nearly everything was purchased online.  Ebay, happs, ultimarc, allposters.com.  Even the oak bar rail was purchased online (not the plywood and 2x4's)

Thanks for the compliments.

I have a video poker and a pachislo I have to take pictures of too.

Too funny I too found out about mame on that thread on avs forum.

I found out about mame around the second week in dec. I now have 4 video games. Two of them are going to be mame machines. This was only a kick in the pants to get motivated for the spring time project of building my gameroom in the basement.

I however have the games temporarily in my Lobby to my home theater. I have been collecting coin-op things since 97 (mostly gum, candy machines). I currently have approximately 50 gum/candy machines and some other cool items . You can see my rtro ?lobby/gameroom on my webpage:

Thanks.  And yup those are PS2 and DC cabs.  I built the Dreamcast one back in 1999.  But I'm still working on the Playstation2 cab control panel, I want real analog controls using the digital 49-ways that originally came with the cab...seems to be a never ending quest though.

I just found someone local who is selling a 29" japanese sit at cab I could make into another DC machine (using the $14.99 dreamcast I just picked up from electronics boutique).  These machines have rotateable monitors!  Way cool to play Ikaruga and Gunbird2 on.  ;D

I know plan a vacation to funspot this summer and you can stay at our cottage . That way I can follow you around for real... ;D

You do know that funspot is only 75 miles from my house and 5 minutes from my cottage right? If you don't already know funspot is one of the biggest arcades in the world and they have a dedicated area for classic games . They also host a classic game tournament ever year.

Yeah, probably not our year.  Sad part, if Devils lose, Hockey's done for me, unless I can keep routing for the long shot Predators.  My long time friend is a Flyers fan (we grew up in South Jersey), so I can't even root against the hated flyers.

Can't have Brodeur playing 70+ games and expect him to do it every year.

BTW, we'll see if Saturday is last game.  I danced on my Ken Daneyko jersey in 2000 when the Flyers went up on the Devils 3-1, and I'm pretty sure the DEvils won the cup that year.    Boo Flyers!

This is kinda big, so if you have a slow PC or slow internet connection it might be real slow but ....I made a panoramic view of my arcade, it's pretty high detail so, you can actually zoom in on stuff pretty well.

http://www.pac-mat.com/Projects/basement/basement.htm (http://www.pac-mat.com/Projects/basement/basement.htm)

Note the Super Nintendo Controllers on the video rockers.  They're hooked up to the PC in the wall and displays there on my 35" Sony.

Not bad I think.

Wow I finally have a gameroom in the new house so I'm glad this thread showed its face again...

So here we have my gameroom:

Starting with the back right corner
(http://www.thatinter.net/gameroom/si.JPG)
Those are drive-in movie theater speakers next to SI.

Back left
(http://www.thatinter.net/gameroom/tom.JPG)
Buster, the evil jaundiced bear-clown, is the most recent ebay acquisition.

Front part of the room
(http://www.thatinter.net/gameroom/vgover.JPG)
We really lucked out in that desk was built into the house and it couldn't work out better for a entertainment center - I just stuck a flexyrack in the chair hole (what is the technical term for that anyway?) for the receiver, DVD player, etc..

and a little closer
(http://www.thatinter.net/gameroom/vgarea.JPG)

The consoles are in the cabinets
(http://www.thatinter.net/gameroom/consoles.JPG)
(all the controllers are in the cabinet to the left of this one)

and completing the circle the Mickey juke
(http://www.thatinter.net/juke/2.JPG)

I'm debating the next project - I'm thinking of either a coctail cabinet for  the area to the right of the Juke but part of me wants a dedicated shmup cabinet (that would replace the cheapie air hockey table and leave me with more room for another cabinet after that). hmmmm.

Anyway keep the pictures coming!

My game room is no where near ready to be shown yet, but I am working on it. I'm hoping this thread stays alive so I can get some ideas on what else is missing.

The Game room is a converted 3 card garage. It was my first experience with sheet-rocking and texture painting.

The car side has the following items: popcorn machine, snow cone machine, cocktail cab, pool table, slot, pub table, and some neon

The second half has the jukebox, two arcade projects and a nice big recliner couch and 35" TV .

The wife wants me to build a bar in the area where my temporary workspace / office is complete with margarita machine, etc..

It's a work in progress.

- I just stuck a flexyrack in the chair hole

When you said that I thought someone was selling 'flexyracks', so I googled. I didn't realise how much these had spread since I first built mine.

I made a 4 450x600mm shelf, 1m high version back in 2000, then chopped the rods in half and added two more 450x600mm shelves plus 3 900x450 shelves so it could hold my widescreen tv as well. I've since had to remove the 450mm shelves on one side for space reasons. Possibly about to mod it again to make space for a sub. And I really should paint the shelves properly instead of the rough matt black on there now.

Hey, if you guys don't mind, check out the site again.  I think the problem was it was loading a 5mb pictures.  It was cool because you could zoom in on the DVD shelves and see the titles of the disks...but totally un-necessary.  Check it out now.

Thanks

Here is a mockup of my planned room.  We get the new house on the 30th, so I shoudl have this done by the 5th of December or so  ;)

Not shown are the pachislo (sp) machines I plan to get, along with the mspac cocktail, the corner mounted tv and the jukebox.  I'll rotate out games as I get tired of them instead of jamming too many in there.  Through the door is the console room (the kids prefer the console games) and on the other side is the sliding door to the hot tub.  You know you always want drunk wet people poking around at your high-current electrical machines, right??

Hehehe oh you bet.  Oh, but just for fun, not for money.  No not for money, no. no, um...no.  ;D

Most fun variation of poker I've every played.  In fact, if it wasn't for Holdem I probably would have passed on the table and put three cocktail cabs side by side instead.

Heh, they'd just be losing to Calgary!  ;D

(sorry, couldn't resist, I feel your pain on this one, I'm actually watching OHL and Senior AAA games to get my fix.   :o)

Edit: I really should commend you on your room too!

I hear you. It's taken the world by storm. I heard that 50 million people play hold'em on a minimum of a monthly basis. More then golf. If it wasn't for poker I'd probably have a few more cabs!

Perhaps, if you were to send me your DK cabaret, the 6 player X-men would then fit?

Just a suggestion...
