Title: Best way to cut 1/4" off board
Post by: Brad Lee on February 07, 2004, 11:40:06 am
The piece Im using for my CP is 24"x8"
The size I need is 23.75"x8"

Whats the best way to get rid of that extra 1/4" of material- Sand it off? I dont have a saw other than hand saws so thats not a good option for me

Do you have a router?  That's how I would take off the extra 1/4".

Do you have access to a table saw? If not where did you buy the wood? If it's a Home Depot or something similar they will cut that off for you. They usually have nice equipment like a radial arm saw that would make short work of the cut. Or if you have a circular saw and a piece of 2x4 as a fence that will work also. A 1/4'' is a bit much to try and sand off and keep a nice edge.

Sorry it's early and I'm only on my 3rd cup of coffee, I didn't see that you didn't have any hand tools. Like I said go to Home Depot even if you didn't buy it from there and ask nicely they will cut it for you. Where do you live? I'll cut it for ya, my brother has his own shop, he does laminate counter tops for a livin.
