Take a look at this: https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dig_Dug_II/Walkthrough
This helps understanding the game mechanics, making getting a higher score much easier.

Thanks.
I just played one game without even knowing the rules. Didn't start using the "Dig" button until 3/4 through.

I was wondering about your score, since it literally just takes one button press to make 10k points at the first level.
I had a (for now extraordinary) good run. 116,100.

Yeah that was it. I just started to play like it was the original Dig Dug. Clearly that is not the point of this game.

You didn't watch the attract mode.
@yamatetsu: one-button click......oh, yeah, I just did that without thinking about it. 10100, got all of them in one hitch. It didn't work the same in the following boards, ending at 16500. It has been years since I've played this game. I recall not figuring out how the land sinking directions worked. While the isometric look is cool at first glance, it limits the gameplay, the beasties 'going under ground' being a novelty at best.
This was after a few games, figuring out some of the dig mechanics.

106,700. I think I could have made it to the next level but it gets really fast at that point.

Round 1: Go down to the last peg, drill down - 10,100 points
Round 3: Go down to the last peg, drill left - 7,000 points
Round 4: Go right to the middle peg, drill up, drill down - 7,000 points
Round 5: Lure the baddies all the way to the right, go to the left peg, drill up - 10,000 points
Round 7: Build a maze on the right side of the island, lure all baddies in, finish them off - 20,000 points
I build the maze like this and finish them off by drilling up at the top peg on the left.

Simple and yet complicated. I'm more interested in Altered Beast, having figured some of it out. I may do another DD II, though......
