Seem to be all gone... ???

I went to my local ebgames, I got one for 14.99. It said 39.99 on the box, but when the dude rang it up, he was shocked to see 14.99
Off to get the 15 games for $50. Sweet. /edit There are only 14 games listed at that price! /edit
I want to get the driving games and make/buy a driving cabinet. Anyone know where I can get a good deal on a steering wheel?

Good deal! Thanks for the heads-up.
This should probably be moved to the consoles forum. That place is in need of more topics.

Jacktucky,
I'm working on a Dreamcast driving cabinet right now (I got an old sit down Turbo cab that had been painted over). I was able to get the Act Labs wheel and pedal set on a closeout, you might want to give them a call to see if they have any more left. VERY high quality for the price you will pay, metal and leather (or pleather?) on the wheel itself, it just feels really nice.
As far as the games you will want to find, here are the best I've played on my cabinet so far:
Daytona 2001
San Francisco Rush 2001
4x4 Evolution
I would consider these 3 must haves. The first two are arcade ports and play well like that on the cabinet. 4x4 has a cool career mode that will keep you interested
As far as price, you might do better on EBAY. TMMV though.

Actlabs has a refurb for $104. Ebay prices for used ones are around that. Is this wheel that good? I'd go for it if it is.

Wow, $104. Believe it or not, they were closing them out for $14.99 about 6 months ago. That was the deal I got. I bought it even though I knew I wouldn't need it at the time. Glad I did
I'll tell you, yes it is worth $100, but I think you can find other stuff out there for the Dreamcast that is a better deal than that. If you don't come across any other great deals though, then go for the Act Labs.
-
Woohoo! I just picked up the last $14.99 dreamcast in my area. The guy at the store said they were flying off the shelves this week. Next is a 15" computer monitor (around $20 on craigslist locally), and I have the makings for a dedicated bartop verticle arcade machine (ala Ikaruga, Gunbird2, ...).
Can't get any cheaper than this.
-
Glad this worked out for some of you! $15 is like giving them away. I just did not have a use for a DC right now. Nor do I have time for it... between the cab, PC, and PS2 i have more games than I can handle. :P
-
would anyone in the west/northwest area want to go buy an extra one and ship to me?? i would pay shipping and all that. seriously, pm me. i did not find one at my location nor online. thanks.

I ordered the Force RS with dreamcast cartridge, and it doesn't do force feedback, is that right?
also, the darn shifter broke off right in my hand.

I see EBGames has them in stock for 24.99 now.

All Gamestop stores have DC systems for $19.99. For awhile they were 30% off...not sure if that is still going on. They are flying off the shelves due to the company no longer dealing with DC. Get one while you can. I got 2! :)

Mine rang up (on Tuesday night) as $19.99 with 30% off. that's $13.99. All the other DC junk was 30% off too. What a deal. Screw Xbox!
FWIW, there was only one left in my area (outside Boston) and it was in a back room. If I had not asked, had them call their other store, and then driven to it, I wouldn't have gotten one. If there are any left out there, you'll want to call around or ask.
They seem to go for about $25 plus shipping on eBay so you aren't gonna do any better than $14 or $19. How could ya?!
Betcha they'll start clearing N64 stuff the same way at some point. It certainly looks like they'd prefer that it wasn't there.
Can you believe that they still want $5-$10 for used and beat-up Genny and SNES carts with no boxes or manuals. Yeesh. I'm sooo glad they aren't going to milk the DC for the next 10-years. I'm certainly liking the DC waaaaay more than my PSX and I'm wondering how I missed this gem all along. Perfect time to get in IMHO.

Yea, I'm kinda bummed that I spent so damn much on my DC way back on September 9, 1999 along with the 6 or 7 games I bought when they were still selling for $40 & $50. Although, I would have had to wait till now to play all those wonderful games, so I guess it was worth it especially with Soul Calibur being my first game, :D yea, it was worth it.
-
Snatch them up! And that actlabs wheel/pedal set is pretty good - I got one of the closeouts last year for 15 bucks too (stupid cartridge was another 15 bucks) but WELL worth the $$$. I wonder if Software etc has them on sale...they are right down the street from me. I'd pick up a backup DC just in case. A cockpit DC would be AWESOME, one day I want to build an Xbox cockpit, maybe I can combine the two. Oh well thats way into the future.

One just opened near me. I went in and asked about the $20 dreamcasts, and he laughed. I mean, really laughed. Tears and all. He also said they didn't have any, and the best place to get one would likely be eBay.

that is more similar to what i have been encountering too. you people with the hot deals need to know that is is not the norm.
Peale, where are you located?

There's your problem, right there. The new stores don't have old stock of traded-in Dreamcasts to put in their 30% off bin. We just had another Gamestop open near me, and they hardly have any DC stuff, and the stuff they do have is new/full price. Plus, this sale has been going on for quite some time, at theast the $19.99 part. The 30% off is only about 2 weeks old.
Stores in the mall are far less likely to have any DC stuff, as they get a lot of traffic, and thus turn their inventory faster. Older stores in strip malls are a little more likely to have them. I grabbed the last one at the older GameStop that I went to, and he said they wouldn't be taking in any more.
You may also try GameStops that used to be Funcolands. It's a bit of a long shot, but while the company was still split into different stores (Babbage's, Funcoland, and Gamestop) Funcoland's emphasis was on older systems. People may have been more likely to trade in their DCs there. Like I said, it's a long shot.
I will be scooping up any DCs that I find around here. If I have any luck, I'll offer them up to folks here for what I paid + shipping.

Brattleboro, VT. The new store is in Keene, NH

What the guy at gamestop told me was that they were centrally locating all their older stock (nes/n64/dc) to one store in the area...thankfully thats the store nearest to me. :-) So the more popular gamestops in the mall and stuff has more room to sell new stuff. Makes sense to me. Just ask someone where they ship their DC stuff too.

Don't flame the hint dropper, but if the more resourceful of you out there check out alt.binaries.dreamcast through a usenet service like astraweb or easynews, more of you might want to rush out and get all that Dreamcast hardware...
it's a library builder for sure...
Shadowhawk
P.S. - you didn't hear it from me ;D

EB Games online has marked them back down to $19.99 with free shipping (I believe) for those of you still wanting one.

....I just picked up my 3rd (my first was from 9/9/99; my second for $30.)....for $19.99 at GameStop in Manhattan ( the last one they had).
I got a brand new controller (in a box) and used VMU all for the $19.99.
Except for some kid's name written on it in marker it appears to be in mint condition.
What a bargain! (even though I have no idea what to do with it!).

That is my current project!
DC, Act Labs wheel (with the damn $15 converter), in an old turbo cab (that had already been painted black).
I have it all wired up here for winter fun, but have taken it apart and begun the sanding and refinishing of the cabinet...

I have all of the trim/t-molding/tinted plexi but have taken it off at the point of these pictures...
