Title: Radeon HD 6450 Detected as 7000 Series
Post by: porkins on August 24, 2018, 07:34:12 pm
Just ran the 2.0 CRT Emudriver setup. I just installed a Radeon HD 6450. Did not install drivers, left it as generic VGA. I ran the CRT Emudriver setup, and it detected it as a Radeon HD 7000 series. Is this ok? Or how can I get it to install the correct 6450 drivers? Thanks!

Is it working okay? It should be fine. AMD loves to rebadge their cards. My 5450 shows up as a 6450 in Windows.

Windows seems fine. Have not run through the VMMaker utility to generate modes. I wanted to wait and see if anybody had any advice.

It's fairly normal with AMD cards -- They will update the series numbers every couple of years even if they are still using the same card for the major pre-built manufacturers, so the 7x series cards are probably just relabeled 6x series if they did not have any major new releases ( because the vendors like Dell, HP etc. want to make buyers think they are getting a new generation card rather than a 2 year old graphics card in their new system) and when they do that they also change the autodetect in the drivers to show as the new series number so those buying the new systems don't have their OS showing it as an old 6x series card that it is so the old cards will show as the new series also.  :dunno
