Hi all
Looking at building a Track and Field solely dedicated to this game and anything game that can use the same button configuration.
I'll run it with a Raspberry Pi
How do I set up the controllers? 4 x player buttons, 2 x set of run buttons (4 buttons) and 2 jump buttons
can i use the ipac 4?
Thankyou to all that can help.
Yes! I'm a noob at controller configuartion, but just love playing this game with my 12 year old boys.

Go for the 4 player cocktail cabinet! Always a success at any party
And with the extra bottom it is good for stand up playing and no need to sit down.
I built a replica a couple of years ago and it was totally worth the time and money spent - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,119107.msg1261623.html#msg1261623 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,119107.msg1261623.html#msg1261623)
By the way, an Ipac2 is good enough since it has 32 inputs, and you will only need 16 of them (with a 4 player setup).

Use leaf switches.

Cheers for the information, I suppose my main question is that I want to try and build a cabinet similar to the attached picture, i would rather a stand up than sit down.
I'm using raspberry pie to run the program, how do I get player 3 & 4 button working? or attached to an ipac2?

Here is the stand up.

I don't understand why you're asking about player3/4 buttons, when that cab style can only accommodate 2 players (just).

You can play 4 players. 2 players at a time in the running events. 1 at a time for the other events. You only need 2 sets of controls. That is the version I am familiar with. Is there another version out there?

Ah yes, you're right. I had it in my mind that 4 players could play some events simultaneously. :/ Bit of a brain fart there.

The I-Pac is a hybrid encoder that you can easily assign each input port to output whichever keystroke, gamepad button, or mouse click you want.
For an Upright cab setup, you'll need these 10-12 input ports:
- 6 player buttons (L. Run, Jump/Throw, and R. Run per player position)
- 4 Start buttons (1 each for players 1-4)
- 1 or 2 Coin buttons? (optional)
-- T&F appears to work OK on Free Play. (some games don't)
-- If you want to use Free Play, play-test it BEFORE you start making sawdust.
For P1, the run buttons are Button 1 (L. Ctrl) and Button 3 (Space) and the jump/throw is Button 2. (L. Alt)
In the MAME dipswitch menu, you can set Cabinet to "Upright" (default setting) and Coin A to "Free Play".
Disclaimer: The older versions of MAME used on the RasPi may have different menu options. :dunno

I really recommend that you consider the cocktail table, since it has the optional base and can be an upright, not a sit down, cabinet. It gives every player more space. But of course, it needs more space as well.

Regarding the ipac2 interface, you can remap the up, down, left, right inputs to the player 3 and 4 buttons, since they are not used in this game anyway.
I have an original Hyper Olympic board in my game, and it runs fine on free play. It would surprise me if the MAME version wouldn't.
