I read about this the other day, Kind of funny really but they are a bit late to the tea party!
-
...and they're cherry-picking. They could have gone after many other sites that are in plain sight of a quick google search. But for some reason they went after this one.
Seems like an odd choice, but I guess Ninty needs to make an example out of someone.
-
Nintendo's been doing this since forever. What's the news story here?
-
Mass shootings and excessive police force have been happening forever too. Should news outlets stop reporting on those too? ::)
-
Reminds me of the time Namco went after one single company for selling MAME cabs with roms and namco IP artwork.
IIRC the company was located not far from themselves, so I guess it was convenient enough to pursue.d
:laugh2: I looked it up and the company is still in business. The artwork now just says "Multicade"
"This machine is plug and play compatible with a 3149 game board. The title of any board is the number of games included. .... The 3149 has almost every arcade game ever made!"
(was going to link the website, but I guess it might violate the rulez)
The description of the cab contains a link to an ebay auction for the "game board".
The cab itself is actually a nice looking Dynamo knockoff.

This is how Nintendo rolls.

I think before they mostly sent out C&D's now they are going for the throat.
But like Opt says interesting choice when so many others are doing the same thing.
-
Obviously they see these sites as a threat to the Switch's sweet new Virtual Console service.
-
They’ll settle for some nominal amount and issue press releases about a confidential agreement and some people will get scared and refer to this event as vague proof that Nintendo cares for the next 20 years.

They probably chose them because they are headquartered in and have their servers in Arizona so they can sue in a US court - most of the others are in foreign countries with more lax laws and less enforcement of them.

Ah, yeah that's a really good point. I didn't think about server locations.

God bless international variation in copulate law.

Oops, copy right law

God bless international variation in copulate law.
What, like in Thailand?
-
More like Lao. In lots of developing countries they just don’t care.

Looks like Nintendo threatened another site -- https://kotaku.com/spooked-by-nintendo-popular-rom-site-closes-after-18-y-1828207099
Guess the popularity of all these retro system remakes has made them decide there is still some profit left in those old roms and licensing them out rather than just letting them sit. Plus now with the proof that the popularity of the NES/SNES classics has shown they have enough proof to show in court that these sites are costing them a lot of revenue so they have a better chance of actually receiving judgements against them for millions of dollars - so it's worth it to them to start suing more.

Nailed it.
"It’s not worth it for us to risk potentially disastrous consequences."
And this:
"We will continue to be passionate retro gamers and will keep doing cool stuff around retro games. "
Yeah, good luck with that. Nobody cares.

Why post a link to Kotaku just to say emu paradise closed up their rom shop? Just sayin it or link to the announcement on the site: https://www.emuparadise.me/emuparadise-changing.php (https://www.emuparadise.me/emuparadise-changing.php)
Its ok to link them since they dot have ROMs anymore
Kotaku blows goats.

Yeah read the announcement earlier very sad day :(
Been my go to place for, well forever!
:(
This whole retro thing has been pushing prices up for years, Then Nintendo jumps on the bandwagon and as usual everyone follows putting prices up more and destroying the emulation scene in the process...
The worst thing is it will probably all be over in another year because they will be out of retro consoles to revive!!
-
I'm going to add emu paradise's death date to the wiki.

Thanks Malenko. Now I have Alexandra Daddario on the brain.
-
This is unfortunate.
Took a quick look at some other cool places to get roms and it seems some of them have just taking down Nintendo roms.

Seems like the cat is out of the bag at this point. I'm sure someplace will have everything eventually.

Ime just glad I have everything I am ever likely to want backed up.

Same here. I have all retro systems from SNES and back from my OG Xbox modding days. They didn't take up much HDD space so just kept them around. Glad I did. Although full sets are still pretty easy to locate in certain torrential places.
