Title: 31.5 kHz Interlaced Modes
Post by: pacboy on August 01, 2018, 09:50:33 pm
Maybe a stupid question, but why do all of the monitor presets have 0 and 0 for InterlacedLinesMin and InterlacedLinesMax the 31.5 kHz crt ranges?  I'm using the arcade_15_25_31 preset, so the highest resolution video mode that it creates is 2560x768x60i (a 25.0 kHz mode).
I'm thinking that vector games would look best using a 31.5 kHz interlaced mode since they look better with higher resolutions on raster crt monitors.  If I want to make a custom preset to create these high-resolution interlaced modes what numbers should I enter for the min and max?  I'm using a Billabs BL25C90T.

I agree, but I made those 0 because otherwise very high interlaced resolutions were created and most people don't like that. Just use the double of the progressive values for the interlaced fields, it'll work.

OK, did that and VMM makes the hi-res modes 2560x800_60i and 2560_960_60i.  When I try to test them in Arcade OSD nothing happens when hitting 5/player 1 coin.
When I run vectors from GM switchres changes the desktop to the hi res, then GM crashes.  I get the impression that this monitor doesn't like anything over 2560x768_60i (25.0 MHz), which works fine.  I'll post a GM log when I get a chance.  Thanks for the advice!

Playing with Arcade OSD again it looks like my hi-res modes do in fact work and are stable.  I needed to "set as desktop mode" to enable the mode to check that it works.

I created and checked a vector GM log against a raster game log that works, and they are both successful.
When I run GM from the command line to create the log, I get this error:

"Unable to create the Direct3D device (8876086C)
Unable to initialize Direct3D 9
Fatal error: Unable to complete window creation"

Any ideas what's causing that error?

Sorted that out by adjusting settings.  So the vector games look similar in 480p, 768i and 960i.  The horizontal vector lines are really thick.  I played with all of the adjustments and nothing seems to have any effect on the height of the horizontal lines (the width of the vertical lines with a vertically mounted monitor).  Is that adjustable?
