I purchase Dig Dug/PacMan/Galaga last week on my Xbox One Arcade. Figured for $2 for all 3, why not. Started playing them today, only to quickly realize the Xbox One controller absolutely sucks for these types of games. I wouldn't mind building my own Xbox One compatible arcade stick, if I could keep it on the cheap.
So, looking for some ideas I guess. Mostly how would I interface it so the Xbox One can recognize the controls.

Haven't pulled this out in years... http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,113154.msg1201658.html#msg1201658 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,113154.msg1201658.html#msg1201658)
But I'm sure an Xbox 360 fightstick would work.

You have a couple options:
1: Hack an actual Xbox one controller. This will be cheap if you already have one. This will require soldering and the risk of messing up the controller. This will guide you through that process (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93pwvkg2iPU)
2: Buy a retail ready made one, TBH this is going to be the easiest and possibly cheapest route. 50-150$
After doing a quick search it doesn't look like there is a cheap ready to go encoder for the Xbox one. After getting all the needed parts you are probably going to be around or even more then just a ready to play one.
Someone correct me if I am wrong. All the cheap encoders ive seen only with with PS3/4 and PC.

yeah that would be my choice, but 100 bucks is cray cray.

Well damn. I was hoping it would be cheaper to build my own, but it's looking like that isn't going to be the case.
