Just curious what people's preference is. I'm talking about 4:3 monitors and assuming you aren't going to build one of each.
-
Depends on how the monitor is installed.
If you install a 27" 4:3 CRT vertically then vertical games will be huge and horizontal games will still fill the cabinet side to side. Otherwise you should install the monitor horizontal because most games are horizontal.
-
You can always double down and do both.
-
Well, you all probably know my preference, rotate the monitor automatically.
Although it is a lot of extra work and expense, IMHO it is worth it. Best of both worlds.
-
I rotate; but if only having one, I'd mount it horizontally.
I used to use a 32" CRT TV with an x-arcade on a pedestal.
The size of the vertical games still felt right.
It feels more off the smaller the monitor is, but I'd still default to horizontal regardless of monitor size unless sticking to early 80's classics.
-
I was thinking about horizontal but worried that vertical games will be too small... monitor is 10" diagonal.

monitor is 10" diagonal.

Is it LCD? If so, rig up simple manual rotation.

In that case all your games are too small. 13" was the smallest size commonly used in games, only a few dartboards and gambling bartops went any smaller.

Ha... well, yeah. As much as I'd like to put a full sized cab in my son's room this is all the boss will allow.

this is my first and last cabinet.
Has both Horizontal & Vertical Monitor.
