It looks a little busy but I'll buy it if it works with a spinner.  Jeff Minter makes some cool games.

It should work with a spinner since it works with a mouse.  I have the original Free version called "Typhoon 2001" that was made years ago.  It worked great on my cabinet with a spinner.

Goodle Typhoon 2001 and you should be able to find the free program hosted somewhere.  I'm glad that he updated it and commercialized it though.  It really is a cool game.

Yeah I've played it, its really great especially since its free. Only thing we don't know yet for this game is the extent of the mouse options, hopefully he thought to put the same options like sensitivity, reverse axis... into this new game just like there was in Typhoon.

This is good to know.  Are there other fun "modernish" spinner PC games out there?  I have an extra spinner I wouldn't mind building something around.

Definitely going in my Tempest cabaret! I couldn't find an original vector monitor to fully restore it so I'm putting in a rotatable LCD as well as other spinner games. Will be nice to have this running alongside the original Tempest even if it is on an LCD.

The only other one I know of is Luxor.

This is a great find.  Can you elaborate on "version"?  Will any build of Tempest 4K support a spinner, and if so, how did you configure it, and how well does it play?

Last I checked it didn't. (Can't remember exactly).  It was built for Direct input, such as an Xbox controller or similar.

Again, I am going by memory so don't quote me.  However, I do remember it be disappointing.

Hey, checking in, could you please inform us on how to implement a usb spinner Interface?

with pc spinner:

if you want some alternate methods :

Since I've been terribly frustrated with the lack of spinner support, I had an idea to add it to this game using AutoHotkey to intercept X coordinates from mouse movement and translate them into left/right keystrokes.

The good news is that it *almost* works. I'm close. The problem I'm dealing with right now is looping back to the center when the cursor hits the edge of the screen.

Here's my code as of right now:;
Code: [Select]
--
Coordmode,Mouse,Screen
MonitorMouseMovement := True
SetTimer,CheckMouseMovement,1
Return

*~1::
MonitorMouseMovement := True
SetTimer,CheckMouseMovement

Return

CheckMouseMovement()
{
Global MonitorMouseMovement
Static OldX
MouseGetPos,CurrentX,CurrentY
If (CurrentX != OldX){

if (OldX < CurrentX) {
Send, {right}
MouseMove, 500, 500,0
OldX:= CurrentX
}
else if (OldX > CurrentX) {
Send, {left}
MouseMove, 500, 500,0
OldX:= CurrentX
}

}
}

CheckMouseMovement:
If (!CheckMouseMovement())
{
SetTimer,CheckMouseMovement,1

}
Return

--

If you've never used AutoHotKey, it's a super powerful scripting tool for Windows. It's free and easy to use.

If I get this working I'll add a launch command for T4K and post it somewhere. And if anyone has any suggestions for getting the loopback to work, I'd love to hear it. It seems like the mouse moves too quickly for AHK to constantly shove it back to the center of the screen.

If you're forcing the mouse back to 500,500, OldX should be set to 500 (or you should be comparing CurrentX to 500.)

Also, you should be sending a number of left or right strokes proportionate to the difference between CurrentX and 500. That way you're emulating the analog nature of the control. (but I doubt the game will react to that many strokes anyway)

If you're not trying to emulate analog control, you should be sending [left key up, right key down] on >500, [right key up, left key down] on <500 and both up on equal. (but that's no better than using a joystick or buttons)

I tried out the new PC Binary with spinner control.
It works as advertised.

Did a binary compare with the Windows 7/8 Binary,
and its very different, so it's not just a tiny patch
to the EXE. There are major sections changed.

The filesize is 1.7k, and the original is 1.6k.

What do you mean by new PC binary? Is this an official patch?

Hey all - sorry for the thread necromancy, but I was wondering if this 'patch' or updated .exe or whatever to add spinner support for Tempest 4000 is available somewhere?  I've tried looking around via google, and I see several posts around the web from Tempest Nut alluding to a patch, but no links to an actual download for this.  Does anyone have a copy, or could someone point me to where I might find this?

I'd love to get this game working with a proper spinner if possible.

Thanks.
