Megatouch Encore boots right up after changing power supply and re-seating security chip. BUT - the touchscreen does not respond to touches. Tried calibrating, but no touch there either. I'm curious if the touch controller is missing. This is the first one I've worked on, and I think maybe it's missing because nothing in plugged into the serial port. See pic.(http://)
Please advise and if you have the part, let me know how much $$.
Thanks, mongoosetoo

That stand off board with ribbon cable going into the motherboards com header is the ts controller. I can't tell from your picture if the ts glass is connected to it or not. Or if there is power going to it.
-
Thanks mahkeymike... This board show in the pictures is the touch controller, right? When the machine is on, there is a green LED lit up on it. But there are no wires connected to it other than the ribbon cable and the ground strap. Should there be a couple wires leading off to the TS overlay?(http://)
-
Yes that's the TS controller. There should be a nvram connector cable that goes to the overlay. Whats on the underside of that controller?
-
I pulled the card out. The only connections are the serial ribbon cable and the grounding/bonding strap. There is really nothing worth noting on the bottom of the card.
Also, I may be looking at it wrong, but I'm pretty sure there is no overlay on the screen. Not like it was removed, but like maybe it doesn't use one. Is that possible?
-
Well that is a Microtouch controller, so there should be a overlay. I honestly am not sure i worked on this model though. I think the oldest model i worked on was the megatouch 6 and XL's. They had the same stand off type controller but i believe they were labeled "Merit". Normally with Microtouch controllers, that center cable would go to the TS overlay. But i dont see any other connections on the controller. Hopefully someone else that has worked on that model will chime in.

BUMP - anyone have any intel on Megatouch controllers?
Thanks, mongoosetoo

Ok i think i figured that model out. See that pic where there is a pin header that says pin 1. The ts overlay goes there with the wire facing to the right.
Here is a pic.
You're looking for a connector/cable comming off the ts overlay that looks like this.

I guess mine may have been removed. I do not see any loose connectors, and when I look at the monitor, it doesn't look like anything can be pulled off - like the overlay is not there. I got this machine from an operator - he may have removed it for another machine. Does anyone have an overlay available? Monitor measures at... 12.5" wide x 9.75" tall. If so, what price with shipping to 43031?
-
Have you tried ebay? I think i still have a old megatouch 6 in storage but i have no idea if the overlay is still on it, or if it works if it is. Plus its a lot of work/time to remove it. But i will check and if its there i think i can test it with a controller from a force or ion mobo and ioboard.

If you need an overlay,I have plenty. I'll send you one for the cost of shipping and if you want to throw in a few bucks for a six pack that'd be swell
-
Be warned, He has expensive taste in beer. It might be cheaper to buy an Aurora or RX.

MegatouchMike,
Just sent a PM to you. Absolutely, I'll take you up on the overlay. In my PM I said $12, but then I reread your post. I too have expensive taste in beer, so shipping plus $20 sound good?
Thanks, mongoosetoo (jim)

see, I'M confused because I don't see where an overlay would interface to the controller besides that ribbon cable... and it goes to the other board. is there maybe another connector near where that ribbon cable plugs in where you could plug something in?
as with mike, XL is about as old as i've worked on... but nonetheless, there should be something from the monitor face (an overlay) interfacing to the touch controller... i'm just not seeing where that would be.

lilshawn,
Look at the second picture posted - - in the foreground, there is a connector on the main board with an arrow pointing to pin 1. I'm guessing that's where the overlay would plug into.
We'll see...can't hurt to plug one in and try... right?
