Title: Smart Power strip for system startup?
Post by: bperkins01 on March 17, 2018, 07:00:52 pm
Hi Everyone,

Are the smart strips still the best way to turn everything on?  i.e.  PC power up triggers the strip to provide power to everything else..
Or is there a better - cooler way now?
It looks like there are strips out there where you can control the outlets via an app too..

Any recommendations on strips?

I haven't found a recent thread on the topic via search..  I'm at the point there I need to get one set up.
Thanks!
Bob

Thanks - I'll be doing that too.

I finally found the old threads -

Power Strip (https://www.amazon.com/SCG-3MVR-Smart-Strip-7-Outlets-Protector/dp/B000P1QJXQ/ref=pd_sim_23_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B000P1QJXQ&pd_rd_r=0QE83G76Z72YDVBWYNBH&pd_rd_w=dsxf7&pd_rd_wg=P8kUn&psc=1&refRID=0QE83G76Z72YDVBWYNBH)

I think this will do the trick..

I used the "restore power after blackout" function on my motherboard, with a monitor that goes to sleep after a while of no signal, and ran my audio of 12v from the pc psu.

You could use an RF power thingy meant for Christmas lights ive done that before.

With a PC the smart strip is still the best way (for a CRT monitor).  However, if you have a PCB and switching power supply you don't really need it.  Or an LCD for that matter since it goes into sleep mode.

Here's a video a did a LOOOONG time ago with my setup that still works to this day:

If you want to use an app, you could use something like Sonoff relays (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR5.TRC2.A0.H0.Xsonoff+basic.TRS0&_nkw=sonoff+basic&_sacat=0).
