I set up my computer a while ago so that when I open outlook, AIM opens too. I can't remember where I set that up but I want to turn it off.
Is that better OD?

I refuse to help anyone who calls it a "puter". :-\

I know a doctor who can fix your "Putter". ;D
I not familiar enough with either of those, but it's mostly like in a Properties setting for one of the two apps. Good Luck!

Much better :) Is it AIM or MSN that opens with Outlook?

AIM
Outlook or Outlook Express?
in Outlook, the option is under: Tools -> Options -> Other -> Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook
In Outlook Express, the option is under: Tools -> Options -> General -> Automatically log on to AOL Instant Messenger

I don't see that option... I'm using outlook express and this is what I have for general.

Oh yea, and here's every thing else, in case anyone thinks of something else

I don't use AIM, so this may not be right:
On the Tools menu, click your messenger service, and then click Options.
On the General tab, clear the Always run this program check box.

can't take a screenshot of the outlook express tool menu, but this is what's on it:

Add Sender to Address Book

Hi,
Try the following.
Open regedit
go to the following key set the value of the following key to 2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Hide Messenger
Hope this helps

I'm not seeing that option, I'm using xp if that changes anything.

When something like this happens to me I always just figure its deamons and have myself a nice little exorcism...but maybe that's just me.
Seriously though I can't help...but I AM interested in the solution...

OK, I have the same problem. I FOUND THE OPTION TO TURN IT OFF. So I unchecked the box.
And ya know what? It STILL opens every damn time I open outlook express, even after verifying that the box is still unchecked. AIM is crap. Uninstall it and install Trillian.

Why can't you take a screenshot of the Outlook tools menu? Just hit the Print Scrn button, which copies a screenshot to the clipboard. Open up MS Paint and click Edit, Paste. Cut out what you want and paste it to a new canvas. Voila.
I don't use AIM, but I suspect the option you're looking for would be in the AIM properties rather than the Outlook properties. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY doubt that MS voluntarily incorporated a feature into Outlook that would open up a competitor's product (AIM v. MSN) even when you don't ask it to. AIM is definitely the culprit.
