rom : galaxian
default settings (lives 3, bonus 7,000)
Galaxian was very successful for Namco and introduced several "firsts". Although not the first color video game, Galaxian took RGB color graphics a step further with multi-colored animated sprites and explosions, different colored fonts for the score and high score, the scrolling starfield, and graphic icons that show the number of lives left and how many stages the player had completed. It also features a crude theme song and more prominent background "music."

Nice! I've never played this very much, as I never knew a world without Galaga.
But Galaga, this ain't!

I was amazed while control-f'ing through the past competition list that this was never chosen. Neither was Venture nor Track N Field.

Galaxian might have been the first color game I ever played. I remember being mesmerized by the star-field and the eye-popping color of the ships. It felt like a game from the future because it looked so much better than anything else from 79.

There's no way I could play this at night without pissing off my wife and waking up my kids. Strangely, Hyper Sports was chosen as a comp game. That one is a little more cerebral I suppose, and more about timing than pounding the ever loving ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of your control panel.
There would have to be a rule addition to a Track N Field competition - No pencils, rat tails combs, etc. I remember when the local arcade installed little cupped ridges around the buttons to deter cheating.

All I know is that I love that game with other people, and hate it by myself, haha. Good idea for stipulations, though.

Not me! But I’m also not bothered by 1942’s whistle music.

That doesn't bother me near as bad as Galaxian does.

A lot of times the whole LCD vs CRT debate seems like a lot of bluster to me. But this is a game that looks 1000x better with a CRT.

Holy crap I am sucking big time. So far I think my high score is 8800 and I can't even get past the 3rd screen. I'm sure back in the day I went to at least the 6th!

You get more points on aliens that are descending than the ones stationary in rows, in case that wasn't already known.

We were on vacation last week so I was away from my cabinet and unable to play except on my phone. The tiny screen just isn't the same although I am proud of the 9,000 I scored at 35,000 feet over the Pacific Ocean--in turbulence.

Looks like it's Mike A's turn to choose the next one.
-
I will have something picked out by Monday night. Any suggestions? Any game long overdue? I haven't participated a whole lot until now.
-
If there aren't any suggestions, just go with your favorite game. Since the slate has been wiped clean, everything except for the three games we have played this year is fair game now.
-
Let's go with Pleiades. Do you want me to start the new thread, or does someone else do that?
-
You made 3rd place, you do the work ;D
-
Third place is one step away from a participation trophy. :P
-
Man, those are pretty good scores! I can hit 10k, that's about it.
