Back in the day. I had a server running at my high school sharing the installed files.
Game ran "portablely" and with multiple users, instant Lan game anywhere.
Biggest group we had was... 16 people? Fun times. 9 YEARS AGO!

We did the same with UT.
Because it was shared across the network the admins could never find and delete it LOL

Prob still be there now!

Good times!
Lil more than 9 years ago though....

Yep.  When UT came out I remember that was my switch from the Quake franchise to the Unreal one.

Kind of interesting how the two companies diverged in retrospect.  ID-engines used to be the cutting edge for 3D gaming, then Epic (among others) took over.

You should!

UT blows Quake out of the water.
And the Morpheus map was the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---!

I used to play them both, God, this conversation reminds me of year 2000 and the “one side or the other” arguments. Nerds.

By the way, I used to sponsor a video game club at work for many many years, and we had some awesome battles playing UT 2004 for many many years as well. It has staying power.

Quake was Doom’s son. UT was like somebody that just moved in to the neighborhood. No comparison.

Unreal Tournament wasn’t fully mature until they introduced vehicles.  Only then did it surpass Quake multiplayer.

Well, that and the different gameplay modes.

I wasnt comparing UT to DOOM or Quake lol

As for the Vehicles, MEH really didnt care!
Preferred to be bouncing round in Zero G with the plasma rifle!!

I forget what the UT game play mode what’s called, but I love the one where you started out on offense, and you had to meet certain objectives, Then you switch to defense and the other team had to meet the objectives in a the time quicker than yours. The best one was that World War II inspired map.

Well back in the early 2000's that was all me and my cooler of beer played. :)
hate bunny hopper BTW.

recently rediscovered it with my boys since I ditched lubuntu for Sparky Linux Gamover edition on our LAN setup.
Then I OWNED them.
for like the first few rounds them my mutant kids memorized every nook and cranny of the included levels and smeared me all over the walls for 30 mins straight. LOL!

The debate for us was Duke Nukem or Quake. We all played Doom, but Duke Nukem was so light hearted and fun - it was a blast. We switched to Quake eventually, but not before playing Blood and Shadow Warrior (built with the Duke engine).

Back then, we would dial each other to play 1v1 over the modem. No real lag and we played... I mean, played - like kids. Running around, laughing and taking it pretty light hearted. When we started playing Quake, we competed like adults in sports. Quake and UT was fun, but I miss the care free gaming days. We were a competitive bunch and still get together once a year for an old school lan.

Here's a pic of last years setup. My biggest issue with my annual LAN is we have 5 players. 5 players is a weird number!

2007, we did some Quake Lew. Then remember Boz had that awesome UT server?  I'd have my kid login on my account so as to look competitive. haha! Nah I never did that.

Yea man, still kicking! How the heck have you been the past decade?

The sign business has morphed into a CNC company. Check the signature for a link.  The wifey and I are headed to our factory in China to finalize our 2018 CNC tables. Let's get you one...
