Don't hold your breath.  Its not designed by Konami, so it will not be a like the arcade.  In fact I've already herd conflicting reports...and this article and pic make it look a lot worse than I expected.  First I thought it was suposed to have a gyroscopic tilt sensor, but from the picture they show a lightgun lens optic.  I imagine the screen will be flickering, reading the position via normal lightgun methods.   Next the article says that the "special sensor" only tells when your head is looking through the scope (a proximity sensor)...and just triggers the zoom funciton of the game (big freaking deal).  The point of the arcade game is to use both eyes, one looking through the scope at the magnified picture, and the other looking at the wide shot to see everything else around your target.

Without a mini LCD in the gun, and without a tilt sensor (preferably on a stable base...otherwise it will be a b!tch to calibrate) there is no way this will replicate the real arcade expierence.   I'm not usually the pessimist, but be prepared to be dissapointed.

Here is a link to the full article.
http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200401/N04.0119.1843.05329.htm (http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200401/N04.0119.1843.05329.htm)

As I thought, its just a normal lightgun with the only added feture of a proximity sensor that activates the zoom funtion when your head is looking throught the scope.  The article mentions normal lightgun tracking problems and a lag of the scope sensor.  I'm going to stick with the PS2 version since it supports USB mice (hacking a gyrosopic mouse to a realistic gun mounted on a base would more accurately recreate the arcade expirence).  The PS2 version also supports networked head-to-head mode for Silent Scope 2 (xbox doesn't for some strange reason).

You guys are a bunch of whiners. Its not perfect therefore it sucks?

Can't anybody ever be happy with a new product?

Act-labs tv guns look like ray guns so they suck, even though they are more accurate than any other gun, work on tv's, and the only one with support for 2 players. The prodigy top switchable joystick sucks because it has the wrong handle on it. The arcade VGA card costs to much and should be given away for free. The twisty grip spinner spins to well. The game cabinets yoke uses lame handles. Plans and software related to mame should also be free, let me change that no one should make any money off from anything related to mame.

Its not that its "not perfect", its just that its not what its advertised as being (leading to a lot of misconceptions).  I'm all for manufacturers going out on a limb and trying to satisfy customer's fetishes...just as long as they don't try and pass it off as something its obviously not.  Cashing in poor kids dreams of a real silent scope gun is just cruel marketing, sorry.

Saw the employees at the local Gamestop playing with this one last night.  It's decently constructed (Three piece) with some nice features, auto-fire (not useful in SS, butin other light gun games), recoil (more on this later).  The proximity sensor is a neat trick, but I didn't get to see it firsthand as they were using the gun to play House of the Dead III.

The recoil feature is SLOW and not powerful at all (I'm comparing to arcade Time Crisis guns as having an appropriate recoil, this was more like a dollar store machinegun toy).  Other than that it's a fairly normal lightgun.

Are there more light gun games for xbox than just HotD3 and the upcoming SS games?

And why must everything xbox related be so disgustingly green???  It could be gunmetal black/silver and just say xbox on the side and it would look 100 times better, IMHO.

Well you see now a day there are dumbasses who might walk around with the gun outside and get shot if the gun is black/silverish. Then they will blame video games for making it in the first place. Read the news lately ?

Yeah...I got an Xbox for Christmas and my senses are always a little bit offended when that initial futuristic green blob thing morphs into the Xbox logo.  Considering the classy intros on the PS2 and Gamecube I always feel like apologizing to my wife whenever I first turn my on Xbox ....just something small like, "I don't know what to say; there's no excuse for it."  ;)

The gun could just as well have been silver or black with a big xbox logo and an orange cap on the end of the barrel or something if they wanted it to not look like a real gun and not look absolutely ridiculous simultaneously.

yup - I thought so too.  I thought toy guns these days are _required_ to have some type of orange cap on the end.  Gawd that green is ugly.

First thing I did when I modded my xbox is change the boot intro to exclude that blob animation and change the logo colors.  Here's hoping xbox 2 will at least change the green to a forest or hunter green and not keep the flourescent black-lite green.

I may be wrong, but I think on ly the end caps are required, but the toy manufacturers are playing it safe by making guns in colors that no police officer could possibly mistake for a real gun.  That way there's a much smaller change of a lawsuit by grieving parents because nervous rookie Officer Johnson failed to see the 1/2 inch long flourescent orange tip on little Timmy's toy gun at 20 yards.  AFAIK, the only "toy" gun manufacturers that still use mostly realistic colors are the AirSoft guns (6mm paintball/soft plastic BB) that are manufactured to look like replica MP5s and what-not.  I have to say I can't blame the manufacturers for trying to not get sued out of business.

That having been said, I think the gun is fugly.

Well I was in Software Etc today and saw this puppy on the shelf.  It was in a decent sized box.  Let me tell you that this was probably the most confusing packaging ever created - almost every side on the box shows a picture of the Silent Scope game cover.  At least 2 or 3 places it says how great the game is.  Then in print on the side: "Software not included".  I had no idea until the sales guy said so.  Ugh another 45$ for the game?  No thanks.

Despite it's apparent coolness, it sucks with games according to http://gear.ign.com/articles/493/493269p1.html (http://gear.ign.com/articles/493/493269p1.html)
