I'm using an ipac ultimate and having an issue in NES at least. Playing a game like contra, I'm trying to hold down while pressing a button. (Shoot/Button B). it should keep me in a crouched down position and let me shoot, but the shoot button interrupts the down command so I end up standing and shooting. Basically I think it's not letting me use those two button presses at the same time. Any way to fix this?

Have you tried an alternative NES emulator? Same results?

I have not yet. using retroarch. Will try something different. any suggestions?

Assuming you are using windows, If you are looking for something quick and easy to test with, Jnes. Something a bit more robust would be fceux.
-
Not sure it has anything to do with it but make sure that "Down" isn't setup as a Shift function within the Ultimarc software.

Tried fceux, same problem. I notice I only have the issue with 1p down+shoot, 1p up+shoot works fine. 2p works perfectly. So maybe a hardware problem?? Not sure what. Down is not a shift button
Down

Maybe try wiring either the down or shoot to a different input and reconfigure the emulator for that input, just to test. If it were me, I’d test a few different configurations to track down the issue.
Also, check to make sure neither input is set as a shift.

Is contra the only game that this is occuring in?

I tried with regular keyboard and had no issues, so I’m guessing that tells me it’s a hardware issue???
I checked and neither my down or the shoot button are shift keys. I remapped another button (my 2player switch to A the 1pl shoot key) and when I use that with the 1pl down + shoot, no issues).
Any thoughts on what could be causing it? Thinking maybe an issue with a shared ground wire ?

I would try physically switching around the buttons at this point to see if the issue follows the button, or if it stays with the input on the ipac.
Also, like JamesTKirk asked, is this only happening in Contra, or can you replicate the issue in other games?

It’s happening in other games/systems

Swapped put microswitches to a known Good one and still have he same issue

I figured out what caused the error. It was because 1 SW 1 had a macro assigned to the "Code with Shifts" for it. The macro was (z, down, enter). Now even though I wasn't using that shift function it still caused the error. When I cleared out that functionality in the board configurator so it just had a primary function of L CTRL it worked fine.

Sometimes you just have to bang your head against the wall until it comes down.

Those shift functions SEEMED like an awesome idea....

First time I had an issue with them. Still like them
