Title: Good 17 Inch IPS LCD Recommendation Needed
Post by: rmusick on November 12, 2017, 09:08:58 pm
Hey everyone,  its been a while for me but slowly getting back into the arena.  I'm trying to start back small, so looking to build a bartop.  Anyone got any recommendations on a 17 inch IPS LCD on ebay, amazon, newegg. etc.

Those, I have found do not really give any specifications for IPS,TN, etc.
Thanks

IPS didn't really come to be until the last few years...even by then... 4:3 monitors where pretty much gone and 16:9 became standard.  currently sold models are either 22" 16:10 or 21,5" 16:9 monitors. If you find a new 17" IPS display today, it's an industrial/medical monitor for a specific purpose and 10x the price.

that said, for example, the JVC DT-V17G25 is an IPS 17" professional video display monitor (think presentation or production monitor) retails for about $4000usd.

you may be able to source a raw LCD panel off ebay or cheap and just pick up an LVDS driver board, backlight driver, and power supply to run it.

For a bartop I would use a 4:3 Dell ultrasharp off craigslist.  You can get these for real cheap (under $20).  They hold up real well.
You can also usually find a local PC repair shop with a bunch of them in stock.  Very little demand for the 4:3 format and businesses often upgrade in bulk dropping a bunch of them at once.  There is a repair shop local to me that has dozens in stock for $10-15.

4:30 either horizontal or vertically oriented is best for classic arcade games anyway.  So save some dough and get a cheap 4:3 lcd.
