Title: Buck Hunter Series - Replay Value
Post by: csnow on October 26, 2017, 09:24:59 pm
Picked up an original BBH for the Wells monitor, but now I am thinking of keeping it and possibly upgrading it to Shooter's Challenge,
Sportsman's Paradise etc.  Before going through the trouble and cash (it needs a new gun), I wanted to see if this game has replay or come back factor.  It seems pretty simple and that it's primary purpose is money grab for the casual bar player or drunk bet scenario between friends.  When on free play, does this series have enough depth/skill to keep you engaged or does it get old quick.  I know many of the classics are simple i.e. DK, Ms Pac, Galaga, but they have had me hooked for over 30 years.  How does the Buck Hunter series rank?  Fun for a spell or every game room should have one?  I have limited space, so the machine needs to warrant the real-estate it consumes.

I personally love the game. Theres one bowling alley in town that has one and i always play when i go, (i spend more time on their CarnEvil though)
But my wife and i still play every now and then on the wii version.

Wii version is actually a very good port.  Combine that with a wiimote gun and you're good to go.

In my opinion the game stays fresh for a LONG time, on one condition. That is, you have people you know who are competing over time. Friends that are into it that will drop by to try and beat your various scores, etc.
We had one in a place I worked, and it was over a year that we were sinking money in, going back and forth. And I would still love to be around one again. It's an EXCELLENT game if competing with someone else. Probably would eventually get boring by yourself.

I like it alright with the wii zapper. Best port ive played. Would be nice if i had a pump action though.

Haven't spent much time on the earlier versions. I have a BBH Pro Open Season and it gets a ton of play when people come over. Way more than Mortal Kombat or the Shmups type stuff I have had over time. The two player games are very competitive.
