Title: Could an onboard Intel 3D Direct AGP 4MB video card play N64?
Post by: AlanS17 on January 30, 2004, 01:11:46 pm
The topic pretty much says everything. I'm trying to do it on a serious budget so I'd rather use the onboard video if possible. Anybody got an answer to this question? I know N64 emulation has been out for a long time, though, and it doesn't take the best PC, but it does have 3D requirements... Anybody know?

Give it a shot. I find most times the reason for slow games in mame is not always the onboard video but the onboard audio. If the games run slow try a pci sound card it might help. And before trying anything make shure you have the latest drivers for your video and the latest direct-x.

I can certainly speak for the audio there. I can run many more games through MAME if i cut the audio sample rate in half.

Whoops... there goes my ADD kicking in again. All getting off track...

Yes it has 3D requirements, and unfortuantely I believe that the 4 MB onboard video will not be be good enough.

Here are the requirements for Project64:

Does Project64 run on a K-6/Pentium1
Yes v1.2 and above however for the RSP the missing functionality of 6th gen. CPUs is emulated with multiple x86 instructions. This basically makes the RSP not viable on a K6/P1 because its too slow. Other parts of the emulator should also work on a K6/P1 but likely unnaceptable for play speeds. Project64 is written for and really benefits hugely from a Pentium3 class CPU.
What graphics card is recommended for Project64?
At the time of writing, the nVidia GeForce3 (any model), with the GeForce2 MX or ATI Radeon my general price/performance recommendation (this will change with time, but those cards should always be perfectly capable of running Project64 because they support everything thats really needed).
