Hello,
I picked up a AMD Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 HD7970 3GB Video Card last year and I'm just now having a chance to try it out with Groovymame/CRTEmudriver.
Unfortunately I can't boot with any version of the most recent driver. Windows 7 loads, but then once it begins to go the login screen the machine gives me a blue screen. (Blue screen of death)
Is this card just not compatible or could I be doing something wrong?
Thank you

More info, please :)
Which "latest version" of which driver? Crt_emudriver, i presume? But which version? Over a brand new normal Win 7 SP1 install? All while not connected to the net?
What do you do when you get the bluescreen and nothing else, do you reinstall Win 7 and go around again? What happens when you try to hold F8 and boot in safe mode?

Hi Buttersoft,
Sorry, here is the additional info you requested:
• Latest Version: CRT emudriver 2.0 Beta 10 - I tried both Crimson non-GCN and GCN.
• Windows 7 is not brand new. It is up-to-date. I previously had an older version of CRT emdriver installed with my older videocard also. I uninstalled it before updating.
• Net: Do you mean the internet? I was connected.
• Blue screen: When this happens, I boot into Safe Mode and uninstall crtemudriver. The system is able to boot after that.
The blue screen does list atikmdag.sys each time this happened.
Thank you

I posted this in my own topic (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,155332.0.html), but I get the same exact error for that same dll as well (and it crashed the system multiple times). I was trying this in Windows 10, not Windows 7 though. I also get another related error with another ATI dll as well: atiadlxx.dll.

Please try the original unpatched version of the driver, so we know whether the problem is caused by the patch itself or not:

Hi Calamity,
Thank you for getting back to me. I tried out the original unpatched driver as you suggested. I received the same blue screen problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks again

Hello again,
Quick update: I spent a good bit of time this weekend troubleshooting this issue. It turns out that the 7970 card I purchased last year on eBay has some sort of fault.
I purchased the same card again and this one works without issue. Mystery solved. :)
No onto actually installing and setting up GroovyMame.
Thanks again!
