Title: Program that detects game sounds and triggers buttons or kepresses?
Post by: thagerty on October 18, 2017, 10:52:29 pm

Is there a program out there with audio detection features that allows for game audio or sounds to trigger keyboard key presses, or similar for controllers?

I want something that will do "keypresses" when specific sounds are detected from a MAME game for example.  I want to use this in my pincab to trigger DOFLinx DOF effects and addressable led MX effects for MAME games.

This would be awesome. Then we could get LEDBlinky to only light up the start button when credits are inserted but for ALL games and not just really old ones.

For pincabs running DOF controlled lighting and feedback, I'm able to pull off some really cool effects with addressable leds for MAME games using a new beta version of DOFLinx. I can have any lighting effect controlled with a key or button.   So Galaga when starting has a cool led starfield around the game screen.  When I push start I can have any word I want flash at the back of the screen.  When i press the fire button I have red led lazer blast effects on the sides of the screen....   very cool stuff that I've been doing with Future Pinball for a while (only that is way cooler).

...but having a program that could either detect specific sounds being played, or detect game functions would allow me to do animated addressable led lighting for "explosions" or other game events to do some really cool stuff.

Even if its not game related there's got to be some program that will recognize certain sounds (like voice recognition) and trigger commands or keys....

I used a version of Dragon that let you make custom voice commands for any action you wanted. I set it up so that if I cussed at my computer it would cuss back at me appropriately. Ya, not a real great use for it.

I set it up to directly play WAV files I think. Like if I said a bad word it would play a WAV file back to me.

I saw once where a guy used audio recognition to open a door lock he made. It recognized a certain knock pattern. There's probably some open source stuff out there.
