Title: ArcadeVGA + PC Troubles (hmmmm)

Just out of curiosity, has anyone encountered a PC that won't take the ArcadeVGA board.

The PC in question is a GigaByte P4 board, P4 1.6a, and 512mb ddr.

I've never had a problem with the AVGA until this board, do you think it's something I'm overlooking?


According to the manual, this is listed regarding AGP cards.



"If your AGP card has an AGP 4X notch, make sure the card is AGP 4X (1.5v)

It goes on to mention the mobo is only 4X compatible, and trying to use any other type of card AGP2x, 4X ,or 8X will damage the motherboard.

Anyone ever hear of something like this?

Arcade VGA is compatible with 1x 2x and 4x (1.5v) standards, as is its parent card the Radeon 7000.

Should be fine.  I have a ASUS P4Pe, which rambles on the same way about only having 4x support.  Infact a red light on the mobo comes on to inform you when you are not using a 4x card, protecting the mobo from damage.

I had the AVGA in it for months and never had a problem.

That's good info, but for whatever reason I just can't seem to even power up using the AVGA and this GigaByte board.

I'm hoping it's just an ID10T or PEBKAC error.  :D

Have you tried other cards in it besides the ArcadeVGA?

Yes, I have tried a GeForce3 from one of my other computers, as well as an ATI Radeon 9100 and GeForce4, and even a little Trident AGP I could even find drivers for just to see if it would come up.

All of them were successful except for the AVGA.

I'm able to use the AVGA on another PC, so I know for a fact it isnt the card.

I think its more or less something to do with this GigaByte board.

What exactly is happening? I couldn't boot to windows and it was in a constant loop(Would get to the Welcome screen then reboot). I just went to safe mode and installed the AVGA drivers and everything runs great now. Then again you said you were running it off of a different board so odds are you didn't overlook this..
