Title: Iscored
Post by: pbj on October 10, 2017, 11:33:43 am
So a friend of mine is using this and really likes it...

$20 seems a bit rich for my blood, but it looks good.

Anyone tried it?

You could use a google docs spreadsheet for free ;)

Is there anything that can automatically query MAME high scores? If so I could make an app for that - no hand entering of scores. I would be a little interested in that.

Driverman tried that once. Once.

I use the risevision digital signage software. The scores are entered using Google docs. I enter the scores using my cell phone and they appear up on the monitor display within seconds. My highscore board also plays 80s music videos and 80s TV commercials. It is free.

The one you linked to looks a lot easier to setup and use than my method.
I might give that a serious look. I can move my videos to a separate screen.

I found this over on Pinside.  Sure, it's a little pricey, but I bought it.  I already have a touchscreen set up for my jukebox so it was a no brainer.  The interface is super easy.  Sure you could do it with a spreadsheet, but try explaining that to my 10 year old kids or drunk friends.  Everyone can track personal high scores on games easily.  I'm using it primarily for pinball, but I added a couple arcade games too.  Highly recommend.

I was excited until I found out it was basically an account to his website and your device had to be internet enabled.  I'm sure it'll be great for 2-3 years until he loses interest and shuts down his server.

Hey folks.  I was looking through my "referrers" in my logs and saw this thread.  I'm the creator of iScored.  Nice place you have here.  :)

pbj is right - you do need a internet-connected device to use the app.  I get that's a problem for some people.  I thought about other implementation ideas, but I'm not really interested in developing for multiple platforms (beyond complying with html/css specs) or dealing with app stores requirements or shipping black-box hardware with encrypted software, or messing around with security dongles and all that.  From my perspective, the simplest way to support the broadest possible range of devices was to implement it through the web browser, since virtually every device with a screen has one of those nowadays.  The downside is that the browser solution doesn't work for some people for various legitimate reasons.

But I can at least assure you the site will not go offline in 2-3 years.  It's paid for 5 years right now, and it's tied to an account with several other domains i've maintained for over 20 years so far.  No plans to stop any time soon.  :)

Anyway, thanks for the support, Shredso!  Hope you're enjoying it.

Isn't this what I'm looking for - a way to extract hiscores?

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,83614.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,83614.0.html)

It was updated a few days ago. I'm not sure how to use it.

I've been playing with it. I can make TXT files that a program can read from.

Has anyone made a leaderboard with this? It looks really easy. My custom front end already reads from files and all that, it would be very simple to do the same with this it seems.
