So say that I have a small string of 12V wedge bulbs in a marquee, can I just wire them to a lamp cord and plug them into a power bar? I've done it before by splicing into the computer's power supply, but I just can't see why I can't just go straight to the bar. I figured I'd ask before shocking the hell outta myself (again) :)

You can only if you use a transfromer. 12 Volt Power supply. Not a standard plug!!!
-
Pretty much your problem with doing that would be, no matter how you hooked them up, they will always be DC and a standard electrical socket is AC. Christmas lights on the other hand... :P
-
Hm, kinda figured that, but why? I mean, I just -knew- there was a reason not to do it, but I'm still curious as to why...
-
Cuz all the lightbulbs will burn out, and you'll probably trip the circuit breaker/ blow a fuse.
-
You should not do ANY electrical work...
Go read a book about it before you fry yourself or burn your house down.
-
I disagree, takin' 110v a couple times makes you more aware of what you're dealing with, so you're more carefull next time ;)
Disclaimer:If you get hurt, it's not my fault.

I would, but all my books are currently on fire. Sorry I asked the question.

Most williams cabs use 12vac for the coindoor lights. Look around old parts shops and find a little 12vac transformer.

Here's the SAFE way. It puts out 12.vac perfect for the light strip.
