I'm not a huge fan of the standard 1/4 inch plexiglass, are there any other options? I've found several sheets that are much thinner, but I'm not sure how durable or sturdy they are.

for what purpose?
Also love the Bill Elliot reference.

Sorry, didn't mean to be vague. I'm working on my own plans for an arcade cabinet, and I like the smooth feel of the plexiglass, but I just feel like the 1/4 inch looks too bulky. I've found several that are much thinner, but I'm not sure about their durability and such things.
Basically, at what point does plexiglass or similar products lose their durability and integrity?

Still a bit vague mate, What do you want 1/4" plexi for?
-
You don't actually need plexi at all. Plexi was mostly for conversion games to keep people from poking the overlay through old holes or peeling off the button stickers. However it is factory correct for some newer games.
I have 21 games at the moment and none of them have plexi on the panel.

What about using it on the control panel?

You only *need* plexi if you have extra holes from conversions and what not, if you are building a new cab you can get away with polycarb coated vynil.
The plexi just acts as a barrier between hands and the artwork. its not actually supporting a load, polycarb does the same thing. If you like the look of plexi you can use 1/8" on the CP but it may be more prone to breaking when drilling the holes.

If I was to guess he is planning on making the cab out of it, judging by the secrecy, ... If that's the case, Jennifer would have to strongly discourage, It will be always dirty and scratched, They did that kind of thing with tvs in prisons, so the crooks couldn't hide loot in them.
