Title: How can I mount a hard drive and PSU in my cabinet?
Post by: Quattro on August 18, 2017, 09:11:38 am
I've been looking for a hard drive bracket to mount against the floor board of my cabinet but no brackets seem to have screw holes that allow this.I really don't want to mount the drive to the board without it being secured into a drive bay...does anyone know of one that has holes to be screwed into a wall?

Also, how can I mount the PSU?

Something like this will work for the HD.
(http://www.usfutaba.com/var/usfutaba/storage/images/product-range/functional-hardware/connecting-brackets/angle-brackets/two-hole-type/8080-2-eng-US/Two-Hole-Type.jpg)
One for each of the 4 mounting locations.
no cage needed and it will most likely hover above depending on hole placement in the bracket and not overheat.

PSU - Same idea. you only need 3 angle brackets. use two on the back for the bottom two mounting holes on the PSU and a third up front for the PSU to lay on. like landing gear. no need for mounting the front bracket. the two back screws will keep it in place.

Corner braces or L-brackets - 4 packs are about $2.50

EDIT : Looks like N-W was thinking the same thing !

Exactly what I needed, thank you!

I used to buy that crap for simple mounting. Now I just take some scrap metal, bend it, and drill the holes myself. Not pretty, but you never see it. I'm sure you have something laying around that you can junk and use. I mean, if you wanted to be a cheapo like me anyways.

You call that cheap! I save up my used chewing gum and I use that to mount my components.

I'm having a little trouble seeing how these would look from the side. I see they can be mounted to a board easily with those screw holes, but do these actually suspend the hard drive?

You could get a 5.25" adapter and screw it ssd down. Or Velcro it. Or get angle aluminum from Home Depot and make bracket.

I ended up just getting a really compact case, fitting all components inside, and I will make a bracket to secure it to machine. Or not. Can easily remove it when transporting machine.

Your own chewing gum?
You were lucky.
I had to wait until parent/teacher conference day and scrape the gum off the bottom of the seats.

With a PC drive cage and chasis.  I read this thread, and to be honest, I find it a dumb question.  I do not think the term research is used anymore.   ::)

I wonder what the next lazy question will be?
