Title: Database of Controls
Post by: fredster on January 28, 2004, 04:22:25 pm
Is there an excell file or database somewhere that breaks down what kind of controls are used on a machine?

I want to make a vertical cab that uses 2 buttons and 1 - 4 way joystick.  Sort of like a galaga setup, except 4 way.

The point - load up mame roms with only alternating players / 2 way or 4 way/ 1 or 2 buttons.

I know the ones I wanted, are all the pac's, the old galaga, pheniox, frogger, etc.  But I bet there are lot more.

Does such a database exist for mame games?

Killer List of Video Games (http://www.klov.com) lists what controls each game uses.

The controls.dat project isn;t complete, yet.  You can help out if you want.  All the info is in the faq on the controls.dat page.

I think that what you are wanting is a program called SortInfo.

You can view a spreadsheet of all mame games and then sort them by # buttons or #of joysticks, or type of joysticks or type of resolution or whatever etc... and then you can actually just export that into excel and there you go.  Very powerful utility.

Word of warning when you use this program.  There are games that have less buttons than advertised in mame.  Also I believe 2way joysticks show up as 8ways in mame.
