Title: Help Setting Up Zero Delay Encoder For 2 Player Retropie
Post by: MarkyB on July 15, 2017, 05:17:43 pm
Hi to all,

I am having problems trying to setup the arcade joystick with the Zero Delay encoder, I have 2 of these
encoders for 2 player as I have 6 led buttons each side, with 1 button at the side, so 14 buttons in total.

How do I go about setting and mapping the arcade buttons in Retropie and Mame please?

Do I also need to go into Retroarch to setup the buttons, and will I have to do this for each platform?

I have plugged in a keyboard which works fine, and have got into the Input General with the TAB key,
just not sure where to go next, do I need to use the Binding Keys to setup 2 player joystick and buttons please?

Can anyone link me to a video on uTube of how to do this please, or point me in the correct direction, just got
myself in a twist about this lol :-)

Any advice would really be grateful

Regards

Marc :-)

Ehm, I don't know if I understand the question as this is pretty straight forward? But when running RetroPie/Emulationstation for the first time you need to setup a controller (with start button). Then when you are in the GUI you press start and there is an option to add more gamepads/controls.

I guess you didn't quite setup RetroPie anyway, so I suggest formatting your SD card and writing the RetroPie to it again. Just a fresh install. After that it actually is straight forward.

You just go into the retropie menu and configure new gamepads

Thanks for your help guys :-)

Being new to this, I didn't realise that you had to configure a gamepad to map
the buttons for an arcade cabinet, thought you could just do this via a keyboard.

I have a PS3 wired controller, I will try it out today.

Found a video on uTube to learn how to configure joypad.

Thankyou :-)

You can do it with a keyboard, or any other input device it supports really ;)

Oh, okay  :)

So you don't need a gamepad to setup arcade buttons then, but is it easier
to setup with a gamepad?

Just trying to find a video, how to setup via a usb keyboard.

Thankyou  :)

No, when you set up a "game pad" in retropie it automatically assigns the buttons you choose to work with all the emulators.

But a game pad can be any input device, a keyboard, a real game pad, a encoder board etc.

Dont over think it ;)

Connect whatever it is you want to play with then configure it in the menu.

Job done :)

Okay,

I have found a video on uTube, if I follow this all should be okay  ;)

Just a newbie to all this, and found it a little confusing to understand....

I appreciate your help  ;)

The first thing you see on a fresh install is the config. You do have to configure controls then. If you configured your keyboard that should work. You just need to know what the start button is. Then you will get to the config as well.
