Title: how to audit roms in this Mame version
Post by: signdude on July 15, 2017, 01:03:18 am
hello all,
was hoping some of the proffesionals here could help me figure out the answer here as i am definitely a rookie at learning Mame.
i have this verson of Mame and a few more versions like it that has this screen(please see attachment) for the home screen. and after i add new Roms i know i should audit them, but i can not seem to find a way to audit them. i have read you can right click them or F5 them but that does not work on this.
I do have older version of Mame32uix that has the option on the home screen that allows for auditing and refresshing your Roms, but i cant really use that older UIX version because it is too old to work with LEDblinky.
so could anyone please tell me how to audit roms in this Mame? thanks so much for any help...

You're best of using a tool designed for that purpose like ClrMAMEpro.

Even the old MAMEUI audit was only a very basic thing that didn't really check things properly.  It's not really up to MAME to manage your roms ;-)

thanks Haze, i think i understand now. so using the Mame version that i am using, if i put a rom in the roms folder then it will show up in my available games list without me physically auditing it?(assuming that the rom is good)

yes, the internal GUI just has a simple check of 'if zip file exists, show machine in list'

it only checks if the data is correct when you attempt to load.
