Title: can you identify this joystick?
Post by: GroovyTuesdaY on January 28, 2004, 01:29:52 am
I was wondering if anyone knew what this joystick was from specifically.   The auction says maybe a pac-man, but it looks kinda big.  I wondered if anyone had ever used one like this.

It looks to have the early Midway bolt pattern, but I didn't think Pac sticks were that deep. It may be an aftermarket replacment. (I have a 4-way in my parts box with the Pac bolt pattern, but with spring action rather than grommet action).

Well, to be honest the current Happ Ms. Pac replacement stick will probably serve you better than an original. The originals do tend to have a slightly better feel, but they are often terribly worn out.  It might take you quite a while to find a GOOD original one.

Does it feel similar to the original though? Having never tried a microswitch 4 way other then the happs ultimate which  i dare say one more time for posterity, WAS CRAP, I just didn't want to spend 30.00 for something that i would regret buying later. Know what i mean?

Yes, it has a similar feel to the original. It is spring action instead of grommet action, but it still feels great. Probably the best modern joystick available.

Go play a Ms. Pac/Galaga reunion machine if you want to test drive the stick, it is (almost, has a different knob) the same one.

The bottom half looks exactly like a Tron/Xenophobe joystick with the exception of the actual handle.

That looks liek an original pac man base, but the stick looks like a Nintendo or something. I had a Pac-Pan 4-way that I sold a while back for 10$, and it looked just like that except for the handle.

This is a Midway stick and it is out of a Baby Pacman. It should feel just fine for Pac and Ms. Pacman.

That stick was also used in Super Pacman. The fact that the shaft is the same color as the balltop gives it away.
