Title: Working on designs - hoping for feedback
Post by: eli curtz on January 28, 2004, 12:36:30 am
I'm working on the design for my first cabinet and would welcome any feedback or advice people have. I'll try to get some mock-ups posted over the next few days - here's the first, "Space Paranoids." I know it's not at all like the "real" version, but they barely even bothered to build a prop for it...

Reference art stolen from the 'net.

Seen one just like it?
Too many controls?
Needs lighted buttons? (well, duh)

Has anybody here built a cabinet based on a fictional game? Last Starfighter, Space Paranoids, Lucky Wander Boy, Pharaoh? (In rough order of obscurity.)

Thanks,
eli

Looks good. I like the look of the front lower panel, is that going to be raised? Are you adding another layer of MDF?

As far as the name goes, it's you're machine, if you like it, it's good.

No too may controls either, just right for a 2 player cab.

Last Starfighter! That would be pretty cool.

Not a bad idea, found this link to the (I assume) original prop used in the movie.

BobbyG - Yes there would be a second layer on the front for the Recognizer's "legs." It would really need wrap-around t-molding, which I haven't seen in red and a few more breaks (maybe make it a two parter to ease movement and add a line across the side.)

Re. Last Starfighter - it's been forever since I've seen the whole movie. Is the game really that skinny? I wonder if you'd have stability problems.

Not much done tonight as it was a long day at work and I couldn't figure out the material editor in gMax. Here's another small idea though - iCade stand alone controller to match the newer style iMac. White on white with a clear polycarbonite surface similar to the grip around the flat panel. Bright white LEDs for the start button and trackball.
