Title: whats the best process to paint the black on the back and top of pacman cabaret?
Post by: Dragonman73 on June 26, 2017, 08:50:30 am
Had a question about the best way to approach painting the black sections on the speaker, top, and back areas of a pacman cabaret (or similar cabinets)

I'm building a couple of duplicate cabarets from scratch using 3/4" birch plywood

And yes I know that's not a pacman CP

I tried priming with a aerosol filler primer, sanding and painting with a semi-gloss aerosol paint. I don't really like the sheen and it shows a lot of scratches and blemishes.

How are you professionals doing it when you restore these cabinets? I'd like it to look showroom new and have to get some sort of process nailed down.

Roller, spray?

Pics would be nice and helpful if you have them

get a quart (1 liter) container of something like Behr "paint and primer in one" paint, SEMI gloss, in a color called "Mica black" doesn't have the be Behr brand it can be any paint, just get a paint and primer one step type of paint.

it's pretty damn close to original black laminate board in color and texture if you roll it on with a foam roller.

it rolls on with a bluish tint but trust me, it dries black.

That and paint, let cure.  Sand with 200 Grit.  Use a tack cloth to wipe it down.  Paint again.  Rinse and repeat 3 x.
