Title: Capacitor help?
Post by: Ravant on January 27, 2004, 08:07:25 pm
The keyboard splitter showcased on this site requires two 0.02 uF capacitors. The problem is, the only way I can feasibly get one is ordering them online and dealing with insane shipping prices for a tiny set of capacitors. I have four 1 year-old 0.01 uF capacitors still in the package. Would putting two 0.01 uF capacitors in series yeild the same results in a timer circuit as a single 0.02 capacitor?

  Try putting them in parallel.

You live in New York and you can't get a capacitor?  Radio Shack sucks, but they have 'em.

If you put two 0.01's in parallel you get 0.02 so that's fine, no need to buy anything.

Capacitors in parallel add up, Resistors in series add up.

Besides if you were stuck still, you could use whatever capacitor you had (within reason) and re-calculate a valid resistor value to match (easier to find resistors).
