Title: Panel Mount USB options
Post by: Zathras on January 27, 2004, 04:27:13 pm
I would like to add a couple of USB ports externally on my cab (for players 3/4, dance pads, etc etc)   but haven't found too many nice looking options.

Actually really only one so far at:
http://www.datapro.net/products/1598.html

and they have a mounting plate here:

Anyone use the above before or are there any other suggested methods for doing this?

How about finding a small 4 port hub with a flat face that you can mount flush to the CP with only a little creative mounting?

something like this (http://www.everythingusb.com/hardware/index/Belkin_Hi-Speed_USB_2.0_Drive_Bay_Hub.htm)
or this (http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=584330/search=usb%20hubs/ut=1891ffd495a27fbe)?

Then you'd only have to run one USB cable to the control panel, but could connect several USB gamepads (or whatever).

I have this on the shelf on my cabinet.
Copy and paste the link into a brand new browser.

I took a usb expansion (the find that fits in an expansion slot that hooks to a computers usb header), took off the ports from the sheet metal.  Then I cut holes in my plexi.  Evertually, there will be artwork under the plexi so it will just look like two rectangles in the end.

I was planning on putting a couple USB ports right above my coin door.  I was just going to use the ones that mound in the back of the computer.  I planned on bend the plate straight and screw them on from the inside with maybe a door covering them on the outside.

I'm going with this one:

It's certainly not the cheapest solution, but it's the cleanest looking method that I've found.  I'm mounting it directly underneath the bottom of the CP (face down).

I agree with MineralAl on this one.  Another option is the type of hub with 2x2 stacked ports, like this one from newegg -
