Howdy... working on some art and have a font question. Since I cannot find an original Donkey Kong font, I am making the letter I need myself. The question i have is when it comes to the A.
On the DK logo, there is a star in the center of the O. Would the A also have a star on it? If so, do you figure it would be a smaller star that stays inside the letters boundaries as the O does? Or same size star as the O and just have it go outside the edges? Or no star?
Its not that one is right or wrong, just wonder if anyone else has pondered something similar. Thanks.

Look for a font called "Jumpman".

Thanks... i feel like i had seen this and dismissed it... not realizing that the double outline makes it look like the original cabinet Marquee font. Thank you very much!!
Edit - So I just tried it out in GIMP... While it does help me a bit, its apparent that it isn't 100% the same as original... as that is hand drawn. I guess I gotta redraw the letters I need myself... Glad the "KONG" part is done for me ;)

I'm an Illustrator guy... no experience with Gimp. In illustrator there's a method to convert type to outlines. If there's the same thing in Gimp, I'd suggest starting with what's in Jumpman, and adjust the points and curves as needed. Sometime it's easier... sometimes easier to redraw the whole thing by hand. :dunno

That doesn't look like the same Jumpman font I've used.

Yeah, I am a GIMPer...
I mess around, but never can get things perfect, but like to play around with ideas... I redrew the letters in GIMP for fun, and this was the A I came up with before starting the thread... and I am still liking it the most, as I lack a second O in my title, and the A is the logical choice... Thoughts? It needs a bit more care but that is the general idea I am after.
That Jumpman font is no good. Even adding an outline, it's too proper, and the charm is in the original being hand drawn.

Enh... I dunno.

About what part?? Any constructive criticism?

I don't like the star. It seems crammed in there. There's a reason why the "O" is the only letter with the star. It fits perfectly on that letter but looks out of whack on the others.
But draw what you dig, bro. Draw what you dig.

I don't disagree with you. It's the part I have the most trouble with. It looks worse on its own than in the title, but its still the same letter haha.
That said... Just having the star in the O makes the logo look lopsided as there is only one in the title.
Edit: This is what the "Jumpman" font I used looks like... again just quick n sloppy. It lacks the charm of the original, and I've grabbed 3 from different sources... they're all the same?
Edit 2: Came across this Zapcon Logo... would seem they had similar conundrum I did with having a star on far end and not the other... Still on the fence about the star in the A for mine, but good to see different examples.

Try making the star break outside of the A... try full size same as the one in the O.

Thanks.
I had tried it big and outside, and for whatever reason tried to make it small after... I am kickin myself for not saving a copy. If I recall correctly, it gets a bit weird when the star crosses outside of the A and that's why, but won't be certain till I try again.
So many ways one can approach the letters we don't know about... makes ya wonder how the original artist woulda done it.

The original artist decided just to put a star in one letter. For good reason. None of the others looked right.

The star in the A doesn't look right.

Poppycock... how do you know for certain? Unless you are said artist, or he gave an interview about all the other 19 letter in the alphabet... LOL.
I will drink a beer with you tho ;)
