Looks like they already got overloaded.

Yeah it showed up on reddit and slickdeals so server is getting hit but Mine went through and I got an e-mail confirming the order and a second one a few minutes later confirming the free pi also !
Shows 1700+ units in stock !
-
Sweet, thanks for the link! Ordered without a problem.
-
Meh.

:stupid
-
looks like they ran out of the free ones already and are OOS (had over 1700 in stock last night - so sold a few :dunno ) -- but do have a a 30% discount code on them ""raspi30" that makes the cost of an rpi3 only around $25 shipped - if they get more before the code expires.
Edit : My order shipped and will be here tomorrow -- also looks like they got about 5,000 more in stock today and even though the free ones are gone it's still a pretty good deal with the 30% discount ($28+/- after tax) with free overnight shipping.

I missed out on the awesome deal, and got the less-awesome deal. Still, it's a good price, so I'm happy to pay it. Thanks for the post!

Glad you at least were in time for the 30% discount - It is over already ( they went from 5000+ units yesterday back to around 1750 showing right now - so looks like the promo got them some orders and all that is left is the free overnight shipping but at least they still sll them at $34.99 rather than the $39.99 + shipping that everywhere else seems to charge .
My 2 showed up around 5pm today so not bad turn around time with the order placed at 9pm Tues. considering how they got slammed with orders ! Now just waiting on the $25 Nes classic knock off from China to get here and can start gutting it for a rpi build.
-
Would have been better off dumping the $100 and getting a Famicom Mini, bro.

I'm partial to the actual NES ;D Gotta keep it clean though.

Already have 2 of the Nes mini's (both from Walmart at retail ) - just wanted to try a pi build and with the $25 knockoff case and 2 SNES USB controllers running less than $10 even using the pi that was paid for ($38) the cost is only $75 ( less if you split the pi cost to include the free one ! ) - the 2 mini nes will be to have one unmodded and one modded with hackchi and the full NES library and the knock off will be for other emulators.

Have you got a link to the NES clone you've decided to use? I was considering building something similar, but basing it around one of the Famicom clones. Some of them are cheap enough to be worth buying just for the case and controllers alone.
A Famicon mini would also be very tempting if I could pick one up for $99. Unfortunately, they cost a lot more than that where I live. I haven't ruled out the idea of importing one from Japan, but so far I've held back because I don't like playing the customs lottery.

Aliexpress is where I ordered from (selected without a box since it was a couple bucks less and don't plan on keeping the box) ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mini-TV-Handheld-Game-Console-Video-Game-Console-For-Nes-Games-with-500-Different-Built-in/32808605208.html (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mini-TV-Handheld-Game-Console-Video-Game-Console-For-Nes-Games-with-500-Different-Built-in/32808605208.html) ) - took about 5 days to ship and says 12-20 days to arrive they have other sellers but those were a bit more costly or had longer shipping estimates so went with it.
Here's a pic of the inside someone posted in case you were wondering what it looked like : (seems to be plenty of space to fit everything !)

It almost looks too good to hack. It's amazing what you can get for $25 shipped these days.
I had my eye on one of these:

It wouldn't surprise me if it has the same hardware inside as the one you bought.
Am I right in assuming that these units use NES compatible hardware? If that's the case then presumably I could use the bundled 500-1 card in a real NES.

The one I ordered does not use a cart - but yes the nes compatible units that have the xxxin1 carts the carts will work with original nes hardware (they also sell the carts by themselves) - just be sure to get the nes version as the famicom use a 60 pin connector instead of the 72 pin the nes has.
