Title: DAC boards with retropie

So raspberry pi has always had sound issues, especially with the line out 3.5mm audio jack. most people rely on the hdmi connection for better sound. i cant use Hdmi since the sound will go to a small amplifier (gain control + headohone support) which will drive 2x3w speakers. so i decided to go with a DAC that accesses the digital audio stream via gpio pins. Ive just bought a hifiberry DAC with 3.5mm out... but i have no idea if it will work or if there are other better solutions.

Anyone tried something like this before?

I'm not familiar with the hifiberry, the solution I see referenced most often for improved 3.5mm sound is over USB.

definitely cheaper than what i bought lol

how good of a solution is it? does it clean up the audio?

Yes. It cleans up the audio. Major improvement.

yes the usb audio mentioned mahuti and the DAC both provide a clean line out that does into your App. Hifiberry has an amplifier version and all you need is to hook up speakers. I was going to get ti but i needed a volume dial and headphone jack support

PS hifiberry have a whole range of products with optical out, RCA out, 3.5mm phone out etc

Anyway, i bought the one with 3.5mm out and happy to report it works well. pretty pricey but. I didn't know if I could trust the USB ones, but I should've done that first since they are heaps cheap
