Title: Star Wars MAME cheap yoke options
Post by: Shekel on May 06, 2017, 09:47:19 am
If I had something for steering and attached Atari 2600 paddles either side, would that work? Also, any ideas what to use for the steering and how to properly keep them secure?

I'm looking for an inexpensive, non-technical, ghetto option to play the game with but still have sorta similar controls.

Here are four possible approaches to consider:

1. Get a USB analog stick like this one (https://www.amazon.com/ThrustMaster-2960623-Thrustmaster-USB-Joystick/dp/B0002EAA36/).

2. Get a USB flight simulator yoke like this one (https://www.amazon.com/CH-Products-Flight-Yoke-200-615/dp/B000056SPM/).

3. Build an analog joystick like KADESTICK. (Link in sig)

4. Get an arcade yoke that isn't from a Star Wars cab. (Firefox, Lock-On, etc.)

Thanks, Scott.

I had looked into all of those things but fast forward-

I just found out that I can do this with a Wiimote and nunchuck(!) emulating a Xbox 360 controller. It's neither amazingly accurate or fast but I'm liking the feel of it and it's probably going to be the easiest and least expensive route for me. The Wiimote is set only to control the X axis and nunchuck for the Y and firing. Maybe even use 2 of those. I didn't even know the nunchuck could do movement like that. Tells you how much I actually used the Wii. So yeah, the only problem is finding a way to tie them together again. It would be great if they were both stable and rotating on something...
