Hi everyone. I decided to build my first bartop arcade and have come up with a couple designs that I would appreciate feedback on. One design is based on Tron and the second is an Atari console "retro" theme. Having a hard time deciding so thought I'd post here and open it up for feedback or a vote. I'm completely new to all of this including photoshop so I'm no graphic designer pro by any stretch...

Personally I prefer the Tron one.
-
You need to get rid of all of the company logos. It looks like the side of a NASCAR. The Tron is definitely better.
-
I like the atari - but the logos need to go.
-
Tron one is cool but get rid of the logos and ad some cool lines or something.
-
Tron. Delete logos.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree the logos have to go. I'm somewhat leaning towards an Atari theme because seems retro/cool and I've yet to come across an Atari themed weecade so sort of original. After doing quite a bit of searching I've come across quite a few Tron themes some using the same graphic I have so not as original but still playing with it.
Any feedback/tips on what to do w/ the Atari theme to make it "work"? Here's a simpler version of it...

Tron.
I love Atari... but... the Tron art is cooler.
All of us have seen Tron stuff a zillion times and yet consensus said (up to this point): TRON.
Who are you trying to wow ;D? A bunch of critiquing arcade nerds? Or your friends that haven't seen a bar top, let alone a zillion Tron bar tops?
The Atari art looks well done, but... Tron.

Oh, and if you're doing Atari, don't forget the woodgrain.
-
The 2nd Atari artwork you posted is much better.
If you want to improve it I would say make the Atari logo bigger and as mahuti suggests try putting the wood grain in rather than the colour gradient.
If not alter the gradient so you have more balance between the brown and black.
As for why the Tron one is cooler it just is lol
The artwork fits better and its more colourful.
The whole point of side art is to draw the eye and the attention of players.
Give it some colour and make it interesting ;)

As much as I like the Tron theme and seems to be the popular choice I've decided to skip it this time around because all along I wanted to build a more "classic/retro" arcade and since this will be a 1 player 4 way stick bartop primarily playing 4 way games powered by retropie I think the retro/classic look will be a better fit and also take me back in time to when I played arcades/video consoles back in the day! So that being said I'm going to play around w/ the Atari theme and see if I can improve on it. I do agree w/ the comments of the wood grain and originally had that in it but wasn't looking right but will go back to that idea and see what I can come up with. As backup themes I'm also considering some of the more original arcade designs such as a pacman, galaga, space invaders, etc... themes.
I'll post back once I have an Atari V3 but do keep the feedback/ideas coming as it's very helpful.

If you really want to make it look retro cut the panels out of hardwood and stain them.
Just have small vinyl decals.

That would look pretty sweet. Makes it less about 1 system then. Saying that - the control panel looks awesome. Tell me you're going to make those red dots light up per game (pacled style)...

Dude. That CPO with pecan colored hardwood cab. EPIC. Maybe orange t-molding.

Still working this design but not coming up with anything I like w/ the Atari theme and adding wood grain elements so WIP. Not sold on the whole thing being stained wood either. My wife likes the current Atari design as it matches our basement/bar furniture but she also thinks the Tron is certainly cooler/louder. Our 7 year old likes them both. I tweaked the Tron design. What says you...Too busy?

Finally found an Atari Themed cabinet after a ton of googling around. Not sure I like it but something to go by.
-
Re the Tron, No it does not fit the blue is to dominating for the rest of the side art.
The Atari one is nice but needs to loose all the title boxes off it!
-
Hah hah... I like the ground fx.
Re: Tron... I thought your first one nailed it. Simple & cool.
-
Just as a 2nd thought if you didnt want to stain the wood etc you could get the iron on laminate stuff?

Well after taking some time to really look and think about my current design ideas and decided to go in a completely different direction. I looked at a ton of examples online and decided I want a more "classic/retro" arcade look to my cab so I decided to go with the Asteroids theme as I used to love that game as a kid so this is what I have come up with. I'm undecided yet on the control panel but leaning towards the Asteroids arcade look (the sample w/ all the color boxes). Now I'm also deciding between the 3 button or 6 button layout. I don't play the major fighting games and do have Bluetooth 8BitDo controllers that I can use for 2 player mode on this bartop but wondering if I should go w/ 6 buttons to avoid regretting not having more than 3 down the road. Anyhow here's a sample of the design....

It'd look a lot nicer with the correct proportions. Those explosions are supposed to be circles. You won't be able to fit a full stand-up cab's art on a bartop, but it'll look better if the proportions are retained.
(Also, I like the Tron art, if it had less logos, and the Atari art with just the single logo looked pretty cool.)
