Title: Have an arcade cab where if you hold down a button too long, all buttons stop...
Post by: Phouglas on April 18, 2017, 12:19:26 am: I have an arcade cabinet. It's running windows 7. If you hold down a button too long, for instance maybe holding down a flipper button to hold a ball in place for a bit or maybe holding down a button to scroll through games fast, whichever. Anyway if a button is held down for maybe 10 seconds or so, all buttons stop working entirely and you have to shutdown pc and reboot.

Any ideas if there's some windows 7 setting that could be causing it?

What would hot keys in windows do?

Is it mapped at a control, shift, windows button etc?

Basically hot keys is to map functions to buttons alt + f4 etc.

Theres also a option in windows to allow/disallow multiple key presses etc worth a look maybe.

In win7, holding it down for a few seconds brings up the 'filter keys' dialog, which waits for a Yes or No button to be clicked. This may be happening in the background, so isn't visable on screen. Plug in a keyboard, and get the buttons in a game to stop working, then alt+tab through the active apps to see if the filter keys dialog is there.

Seems it can also be activated by quickly pressing the left shift key 5 times, which I didn't know about.

Or could it be that I'm holding it down and the dialogue is coming up asking if I want to turn it on? And I have to tell it no stop doing that? Any ideas?

You could even try doing it on the desktop without the fe or emu running to see whats going on.

Yes, sticky/filter keys may be turned off, but you also have to turn off the dialog box that asks if you want to enable them. It tells you how to do this in the link I posted above.
