i've looked around quite a bit on ways to use mame with the ipad and no luck.do any of you know how to do this? also if it works can I also use my monitor to put the picture of thwhats on my ipad to the monotor so i can use the ipad as my mame arcade computer?

Jailbreak, install Cydia, find emulators. You can buy a cable to hook your iPad up to a TV, and there's yet another Cydia app that will enable it for everything (IIRC, Apple restricts TV mirroring to a few apps). Use bluetooth controllers. At one point, someone sneaked MAME into the App store and it wouldn't surprise me if you could find it digging around.
I messed around with it but whole endeavor seemed pointless.
All of this is very easy to do on Android devices, of course.

just dont have an android device unless it can be done with my android phone?
-
Unfortuantely iOSes closed system kind of makes the emulation scene difficult. I haven't even bothered on my hand-me-down iPhone. For all the hassle you are going to run into a cheap android tablet like the fire tablets might be a better investment.
-
the only reason im even trying it is because i own an ipad and not an android tablet is all.

Selling the ipad on craigslist or Ebay and buying a new tablet would probably be easier and cheaper !

pbj told you how to do it if you are insistent. That's the only way. The fact that three people have suggested against it should make you re-evaluate your plan though. Mameing on an ipad is a costly, tedious experience.

Here you go, knock yourself out sport:

I'm not having a cow. After all these years it never ceases to amaze me how people ask for advice and then get upset when the advice they get isn't what they wanted to hear.

Forget the iPad idea. Even if you do manage to install mame on it, you won't be happy with it. Spend $50 on a raspberry pi setup and enjoy some out of the box oses like lakka or retropie.
