Title: Trackball issue, from the start
Post by: Hawkeye71 on March 29, 2017, 09:32:09 am
Hi all

Bought the budget green glow Ps2 trackball for my cp. Got myself a Ps2 adapter for USB. The ball glows green.

What do I do now though  at a PC level? I assume I switch mouse off and trackball on but I can't figure out how to do it.

Many thanks.

Does the mouse pointer move on the desktop when using the trackball?

Assuming you mean for MAME, you need to edit the Mame.ini file to enable the mouse and trackball.

There are a few ways to do this, google or search this forum for Mame.ini and more info will come up.

If using windows open the command prompt (CMD)

You will need to navigate to where your Mame.exe file is then enter Mame.exe -cc
This will then create a new file in that folder called Mame.ini in there you can edit the settings.

Example

cd D:\Emulators\Mame\
Mame.exe -cc

you can also drag and drop the Mame folder into CMD and it should auto fill that info.

Once you have the Mame.ini file open it with notepad or a text editor. Look for
# CORE INPUT OPTIONS
Change Mouse to 1
then look for
# CORE INPUT AUTOMATIC ENABLE OPTIONS
and change trackball_device to mouse
you can also change anything else to mouse that you want.

Many thanks for your help.

No, it doesn't work on the desktop yet so I trust i'm still stuck at stage 1 before getting involved in MAME?

I assumed once the drivers are installed the trackball would work instantly like a mouse does but no. Even took the  mouse USB out to see if it would force itself to seek elsewhere, that didn't work.

Is there a setting somewhere  in the PC that activates a trackball or even replaces the mouse?

You shouldn't need no enable or disable anything on the PC side.

I have a feeling that it may be the Ps2/usb adapter. Some simple adapters may not work right even though your getting power to the LED. Does your adapter look something like this adapter (https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Converter-Universal-10-4-10-9-TU-PS2/dp/B0007T27HI/ref=pd_sim_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0007T27HI&pd_rd_r=H6J7PJ55ADS5DZAVVSVC&pd_rd_w=dMtkj&pd_rd_wg=rG3eL&psc=1&refRID=H6J7PJ55ADS5DZAVVSVC)?

or is it like this adapter (https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-PS-Keyboard-USB-Adapter/dp/B0009RKLMG/ref=pd_sim_147_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0009RKLMG&pd_rd_r=H6J7PJ55ADS5DZAVVSVC&pd_rd_w=dMtkj&pd_rd_wg=rG3eL&psc=1&refRID=H6J7PJ55ADS5DZAVVSVC)?

Post what adapter you have and also what brand/model is the trackball?

So it's supposed to work immediately? Darn.

Dammit. Now I review  this thing, I think it only coverts keyboards
