I'm working on my 4-player control panel, and was wondering if I will regret not installing a dedicated 4-way joystick for old-school arcade games?
I will be using iL Eurojoysticks for the 4 main players and didn't know if they will do a half-way decent job of mimicking a 4-way.
Any thoughts?

If you're that worried, get a top switchable one. Or a U360. Most people won't know the difference. Unless you play zaxxon of qbert. Then you will wish you had a 4-way diagonal hah hah. There are always pros and cons to every part.

A 4-way joystick would actually see more use than your player 3 and 4 sticks combined, probably more than your player 2 stick as well.

I wish Paige was coming to ZapCon. He'd never be without a drink if I could help it.

I normally don't like to pile on but this is such a great point it deserves a retweet.

And I LOVE both Zaxxon and Qbert!

Zaxxon is 8-way.
If you love Qbert then buy this stick. If you don't torque down the nut then it can be rotated in the mounting hole for Qbert or normal 4-way games. I actually have one (torqued down) in my real Qbert machine because original Qbert sticks are garbage.

That could be a pricey promise!

I use my dedicated 4 way a lot. ADD IT :applaud:

+1 for dedicated 4-way.
Of course, I'm basing this comment on the fact that I personally love lots of 4-way games. If early 80s classics aren't that important to you, you could probably get away with just faking it using an 8-way. Maze games and Frogger would absolutely suck, though.

Born in '69 and saw the advent of most of the classic arcade games. I was a child of '80s arcade surrogate parenting. LOL.
Classic arcade games are at the heart of my build so...a dedicated 4-way it shall be.
