Yeah I held out 4 years, so I think I fought the good fight. Went to Walmart today and they had marked even more amiibo down to 3 bucks. Wario was one of my favoriate characters in Mario Kart 64 back in the day and my guess is there won't be many reissues of the Capcom-owned Ryu.

Those are cool. Good price. Every once in awhile I see those but they are always too rich for me.

Yeah I don't get the whole "gotta catch 'em all" aspect of the amiibo, but when they are low priced like this I can see them purely for shelf candy. Wario's sculpt is damned impressive... Ryu, not so much, but it seems that the smash bro's amiibo all kind of suck sculpt wise.
I've also got a 10 dollar gamestop gift card burning a hole in my pocket and I think they have rob, duck hunt dog and mr game and watch in a combo for 12 bucks.

Kinda related - I've never understood the need for people to put toys on top of their games. Games BITD never had toppers like that.

Eh it's just kind of fun. Some games actually did have toppers. TMNT II had a really nice cutout with Mikey telling everyone that it's a "New Game!"
I'm wondering if there would be a market for knockoff amiibo. Characters that will NEVER get their own statue like Professors Hector and Vector from gyromite, some of the forgotten black box characters like the guy from Urban Champion, the Kung Fu guy ect. I've got a 3d printer now... I might print some out just for fun.

Heh. The sad thing is I recognize which gi joe were re-painted for that. Except for Mario of course.... pretty sure that's a Roger Rabbit figure or something.

I am still pissed about the Disney Infinity closure. Will think twice now about collecting anything game character related. Yet three dollars is not breaking the bank.

I saw the writing on the wall for the Infinity figures as soon as they were announced. While Disney technically has a games division, they aren't a game company... they are merch company. At the rate they were churning out those figures you had to think they would eventually hit max saturation and realize that there wasn't much money left to be had rather than just releasing action figures.
Nintendo figures don't really help for the games anyway. I mean in botw I can get some meat and flowers dropped?!?

We had about 10 of them in the house in various kids rooms and I didn't realize it. I even had three that were given to me by my mom for various holidays that were sitting in a box (with other nick nacks) waiting for me to build a shelf in the basement. I guess they are relatively cheap and easy gifts for a family that loves Nintendo.
They were all gathering dust until I found out they could be used in BOTW. Like Howard said they are not super useful but it is still kinda fun to use them. Getting Epona via an Amiibo was pretty cool.

Kind of surprised the Amiibo hacking never really went anywhere. That "amiiqo" is still like $60.

Probably because they don't really do anything in most games. It just isn't worth the effort.
Btw I tried that amiibo app for the wii u and it RUINS games. One unlocked scenes from Metroid.... scene 1 was the beginning of the game... fair enough... but the rest of the scenes jumped to the two bosses, the metroids, and mother brain. Wtf? That should take a real gamer hours to reach... amiibos are spoiling kids!!!
I'm pretty set on making some amiibo-like models to print out at this point. I've just got to find the time. I haven't even started on my world of Nintendo cab yet.

Here's one listed as useable for amiibo's (ntag216) for $4.86 for 10 -- so yeah closer to $.50 each rather than $0.16.

Eh, eff it. I ordered their lot of 20 key fobs. Worked out to about 50 cents shipped each. The novelty value of bootlegging Amiibos is well worth $10. Was kinda fun to scan the ones I actually own with my phone last night.

Anyway... they are multiplying as I clear out my gift card cache. Probably needs to go in the free stuff thread as I paid a whole $1.25 for them when all was said and done. This one was via a gamestop freebie gift card, but check your local game centers guys.... both gamestop and walmart are doing deep discounts on amiibo and wii u stuff.
I want to get Pacman and Megaman and the 8-bit versions of Mario and Link. After that it's strictly back to whatever happens to be on sale when I have spare change.

See, at $2-3, I'd buy every single one I saw. Maybe some day you could do something neat with the NFC chips in them like use them to start up a specific game on an emulator console.

There weren't many in the 3 dollar category at my local Walmart at least. Aside from Wario and Ryu it was Wadledee, which looks like an orange Kirby and sounds like some sort of condition similar to swamp ass. They had a few more in the 6-8 dollar range though.

I've checked a huge Wal-Mart. They had exactly one Amiibo and it was that weird orange one and $13.

Don't believe anyone who says that ntag216 will work unless they tell you exactly how to partition off the extra bytes.

I use the credit card pvc tags, and I have a datel Powersaves with some extra power tags. That way I can choose between temporary and permanent.
I think the worst use of the amiibo I saw was Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival - you have to put your amiibo on to roll the die for your turn. Every turn. I have a shell on my gamepad, but I still wouldn't want kids smacking amiibos on there every 30 seconds. I think if you want to be that hands-on, just play Candy Land.

So Walmart completely sold out of their discounted Amiibo. The full price ones have been discounted to 13 bucks though, so I guess I'll watch the more popular characters now.

Most people probably already know this but just in case.... Walmart has also reduced the prices of select amiibo on their website. $3.96 and use store pickup to avoid shipping charges. I saw 25th anniversary Mario, Zero Suit Samus, some Animal Crossing guys and a few early wave Smash Bros. figures. It seems strange to me that $3.00 is my impulse purchase price and 3.96 isn't. ;)

I dunno guys. Nintendo seems to be full steam ahead with amiibo unlockables. They did an hour long presentation about it last night.... aka the Nintendo Direct.

Well I was at Walmart the other day.... they had Daisy and Luigi in the bargain isle shoved all the way in the back. Felt sorry for the little inanimate objects so I bought them. So now I have to get Mario and Peach or I'm just the wierdo that got Daisy, Luigi and Wario and didn't get Mario and Peach. I also saw "World of Nintendo" figurines in the checkout for 3 bucks a pop.....This is snowballing out of control.

Same here. It was worth the $10 to say I did it, which was my attitude going in. Zelda's such a time suck I quickly lost interest in it.
