I have a CNC router and am looking at the idea of producing cheap flat pack cabinets. I was wondering if there would be a demand for such a product or is the need been already met?
I am thinking that the cost of the cabinets would be materials cost + $50 + delvery costs.
Is there any good designs that are popular that would be worth making?
This is not to be my primary bussiness but a supliment that could also help out those who wanted a head start with building thier own machine.
Good idea? Any suggestions?

People have tried this approach before. It hasn't taken on yet. There are a couple companies that have done it, but most of the people who attempt this venture fail.

Another thing. 50 bucks might not be enought money to keep your interests.
With all that goes into it.. design, routing, packing, ect... you will probably not make enought to make it worth your time.
but then again.. many many many ventures here are done for the love... not the cash.

What would the shipping costs be from Australia to the states of packages of that weight? That might limit your audience a bit.

I completely missed the .au bit. That's the clencher right there. You might find a niche there, but shipping overseas? The cost would be outlandish.

Mostly I have seen "Simpsons" style cabinets like from SlickStik and Arcade shopper, but what would be really cool is a old Midway "PacMan" style cabinet!

If you are dead set on making cabs, the only way you're going to make any money is if you repro pac, ms pac, or galaga cabs and sell them to someone refurbing an original. Even then I don't think your going to be making any money , relative to the time invested.
Building a complete functioning cab is probably the only solvent method, but you will find out that not many people are too keen on making money off of MAME, and others have no problem. So, in a nutshell, do what you want, buyer beware, and always look out for number one, but don't step in number 2.
I have no idea what I just said. I'm low on blood sugar.
