Hi Folks,
First, let me say how helpful and informative the BYOC site and message boards have been with building my first CP. This is my first post so I hope I don't annoy anyone with my newbie questions.
I have a 13 button CP with an Omni-Stik Prodigy joystick and an Oscar Model 3 spinner. My interface is a Hagstrom KE-USB36. The buttons and joystick work great but I can't get the spinner to work. I have checked the cable between the spinner and interface and I don't think that is the problem. Is there any way to tell whether the optic board for the spinner is working correctly or if the interface is working properly? I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Loosen off the optic board that is fastened to the Model 3.
Move it around, spin the spinner, and watch your cursor in Windows to see if it moves back and forth.
I had the same problem. Aligning the board "by eye" is not the best way to do it.

If worse comes to worst, Radio Shack sells infrared sensors so you can see whether or not the board is putting out a beam. If it isn't, check for 5v somewhere on the board (not too familiar with Oscar controls so I don't know where to test).
EDIT: I forgot to mention that all that the IR sensor is is a light-sensitive strip of laminated paper with some sensitive material on an end of it that shows where the beam is striking. Not high tech, but cheap (a buck or two if I remember).
